"ehhh..." to me, and I liked Dressed To Kill and Revenge but am not an avid KISS fan.

MY TOP TEN OF HUNDREDS OF RANTS-

1-first and foremost, the true lack of musicianship in today's music , and the disdain everyone holds for bands that had it back in the day, which seems like 38 years ago now.
2-lack of catchy, yet ballsy, hot chickiedoodle attracting hooks in hard rock tunes. wait, there is no more hard rock. just misery.
3-lack of overly painted, rubber clothes wearing,
robo-babes who are extremely partial to long locked cats who play catchy tunes with some slippery leads in the middle of 'em.
4-the fact that i am getting older and more out of style every hour.
5-the weary feeling of fatigue that has set in while waiting for real rock and roll to come bursting back like a lightning bolt through everyone's heads.
6-facing the fact that it's gonna take an album
like Van Halen's first to set the world back on it's axis and straighten shit out on this planet, and knowing that it will probably never happen again as nobody likes to learn how to really play anymore. whose gonna save us, the white stripes?
yeah right!!!!!!!
7-people who justify while categorizing drug use.
example-
"atomic, how come you are shooting cocaine? only junkies do that shit. it's evil man, so is smoking it dude."
atomic-"but shoving boatloads up your nose is just ducky and socially acceptable ain't it? it's all horrible in the end jacka-s-s!!! by the way, now you can't have anymore!! AND STOP LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW, THERE'S NOBODY THERE!!"- lol
8-the lack of larger than life rock stars in the world. where are the Paul Stanleys, Mick Jaggers,
Jimmy Pages,David Lee Roths,etc. of today?
9-having to see one of your favorite bands or biggest influences reduced to having to play a small club,and be made fun of by uneducated down tuning "index finger only" using half guitarists
who only make fun of the guy because he's from the 80's in the first place, and would not know
how great the guy is if they sat indian style in front of the guys marshalls for 2 hours.
10-I'M STILL REALLY FUKKIN' PISSED OFF THAT
RANDY RHOADS DIED AND THE ORIGINAL VAN HALEN DID TOO.

- the notion that there are people who don't understand the simple fact that jane's addiction is very simply, one of the best fucking bands ever. unfathomable.

- kids with cell phones.

- the general dumbing down of the country... not the world. america is rabid with stupid people who can barely communicate.

- people who use "your" when they should use "you're."

- people who leave the caps lock on.

- rhoads fans who refuse to admit that jake was pretty damn cool.

- wal mart; i find it revolting the amount of product censorship and hypocracy that goes on there.

- the fact that i can't take painkillers/opiates without becoming incredibly hooked on them.

- the fact that you can be jobless and have as many kids as you want, although you have no way of supporting them yourself.

- adoptions that stipulate the mother be involved with the child. go all the way and give the kid a good chance at life.

- reality shows of all kinds.

- the fact that there's not enough prozac in the world to get axl back to sanity.

- super sizing. you don't need to eat that many french fries, you fat bastard.

- the fact that i can't get caffrey's irish ale down here.

- stem cell research being blocked. this is nothing but a good thing for those who need organ transplants.

I used to use 13's tuned to Eb. As a result I have some sick pinching power. [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] You just have to ramp up to it. I didn't see any added tone benefits, so now I generally use 11's when tuning that high, 13's for anything lower.

one big rant-
i'm a jackass.
even with the expensive and vicious drug habit at the time, i found a way to tuck almost 200k away
back in '98. i could have wiped out rob lane and gotten some killer stuff but i was not in the game yet. he was only 20 minutes down the freeway from me. i ended up getting a good portion of it anyway from neil. it would have gotten sold off in the end anyway so fuck it. i am still a jackass.

I would like to add, one tiny rant I have is that old schoolers argue that nobody in current bands can play anything other than downtuned power chords, without actually checking out more current bands to see if this statement is true. I used to be one of those guys. It's simply not true.

Of course it's not true. It wasn't true with the big bands out of Seattle either. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains all had/have damn good lead guitarists.

The musicianship is there, it's just not confined to 30 seconds of masturbation in the middle of a song where it makes no sense.

Except for Dream Theatre. Nothing they do makes sense, but it's okay 'cause it's DT. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

i can't stand dream theatre or pearl jam.
i love alice and soundgarden. jerry cantrell is a monster. i am not a fan of shadows fall, nevermore, etc. because i don't know their stuff.
i am not saying they can't play, but you gotta admit that they are not in the mainstream. you gotta dig a little to get to the guys who can play
well these days. they're certainly not in the forefront, you can't argue that. and masterbating for 30 seconds in the middle of a song can really compliment it, as long as it's got a great blues based feel with a little hot sauce on it. i know there are plenty of guys who can rip out there, you just don't get to see them as easy as you used too. rippin' players were constantly in your face, and it was great. you could flip on m.t.v. and there was evh,jake,warren, lynch, as well as a ton of headaches, but the headaches could even make you pay attention. outside of korn, (i used to live next door to them) whose music i'm not really into, who can sell out the forum or the garden these days? not too many. change is inevitable, but frustration set in with me a long time ago when wailing guitar got canned completely. i just wanna hear some no frills balls out rock and roll that makes your blood boil. i want a buzzsaw riff, hooks and fills from hell, and yes, a solo that rips and compliments the song. be it a couple of notes, or a bunch of 'em. it can be done, i just don't see it anymore.i'm not into slaying dragons or "heaven-like" warrant power ballads, but if you are that's great. the following is what i am all about, and topping them may well be impossible,thus the state of music today.

missing persons, jeff buckley,prince, etc., even top 40 and disco. i like all kinds of stuff, but hard rock is tops with me and it has been non existent for too long. music needs a shot in the arm, i hope it shows its face in the form of hard rock as it rewrites the rules once again.

But see Tommy, I personally think its a good thing that the newer bands that I listed stay out of the mainstream...when stuff like that gets into the mainstream it gets corrupted and that is what the "bunch of headaches" comes from. I'm not trying to call you out or anything, but there are guys in bands that can play just as good as the 80s guys can, even though they're doing it in a different context. And we both can agree on Alice In Chains. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

There's is even Guita solos on the new Fear Factory and they NEVER had solos ..

There is soooo many kids out there right now that are shredding their asses off in a evolved format ...but the shred is certainly there ..and it does rule and will get even better ...it's starting to snow ball!!!

OK My only pet peave for the moment is my PP...I was holding out a couple of days .. So me and the Mrs. Z Bub was goin' at it for a few minutes ...and it felt like this humungous Peter North Geiser thing about to happen ... but my point is that by not being in the mainstream, or at least in some kind of rotation on music channels, it seems like great guitar will continue to remain way way in the background
where it can't be heard or seen. it was great when electric guitars just about dominated the music scene. even fluff top 40 hits had heavy distortion solos in them. it was infectious. it almost forced even the hardcore jocks of the day to learn how to play. it was electric, no pun intended.
