I hate songs with no solos or riffs, can't stand it. I think the lack of guitar solos today results from new guitarists' lack of ability to play them. No one wants to practice anymore. I've been playing 15 years and I still have to work on my solo playing. The newer Metal music I've heard seems too over simplified. I'm not saying all of it, I haven't heard it all of course, just generalizing from the stuff I've heard so far. The first time I heard Nirvana I thought it was a joke. Jeez, don't worry guys the drop tuned days are coming to an end. Metal is making a come back and they are proficient.

the only difference is they don't sing about partying like the glam bands did.


today's metal scene is all about being brutal AND musically proficient. It makes for some kick ass shit.

Stop whining about popular music. The only way we're going to get innovative, varied music into the mainstream is get more people fighting our war, if you'd like to think of it that way. Get more bands and artists studying musicianship and writing innovative music, get more promoters for this kinda music, and get more radio stations, tv shows, magazines, and etc. playing and advertising this kinda music. The corporate music market here in the U.S. aims at the largest audience, teenagers. You know how teens are, right? They all want to fit in with the cool kids, whatever that may be. The music that accents those "cool kid" characteristics is the music that the corporate music markets push most. If we could get all those teens to like our kinda music, our problem would be solved. Otherwise we're all just gonna have to get used to being underground music freaks.

PS - A rant from me... the war on drugs, it's a waste of time and money -- the criminal element is always one step ahead of the law and their ON DRUGS! The people who want drugs get them, illegal or not - stop throwing good money after bad to fight a fight that CANNOT be won.

the law is not one step behind. they are informed of situations and they either choose to make a tidy sum of money by letting everything slide,(on the take as it's called)or they choose to hardly get involved at all. it was a catchy campaign slogan basically. the only war going on is the war to see who can make the strongest dope and own the largest franchise distribution routes.

1. People who drive too slow in the fast lane on the hwy when theres no cars preventing them from getting into the right lane. Usually truckers!
2. People who think they need to be on the cell phone every minute. Why? Usually teen girls.

tuning has nothing to do with musicianship

you can't compare really technical death metal stuff often tuned to cis / b / or even A to nu metal in the same tuning.

people who listen to everything that is on mtv ,and not having a musical taste in reality
