There's an interesting discussion here, too. One of the main problems I have with my hardline liberal brethren is the odd desire to "Europe-ize" America. I dunno, I just prefer my vision of the world, where every country is different, ya know? There are tropical places, and snowy places, and Islamic governments, and Christian gonvernments, and secular governments, and hot, hot beautiful ladies everywhere. The world can be a rough, dangerous, dark place, and it can be a most amazingly wondrous place, too.

My point is; I like living in America. I'm not proud of it (what did I achieve?), and I am well aware of the many problems here. But there are problems everywhere, right? This world is a glorious mess. There is pain, and suffering, but there is much love and beauty, too.

Certainly in our government agencies and in the large cities there are many aspects and attitudes of socialism. I like to think as long as there are armed Americans we will still be a free republic to a certain extent. This was one of the main reasons for the 2nd Amendment.
However, many of the freedoms that our forefathers experienced are slowly being whittled away. Inch by inch, and that is the key. I wish I could recall the Insider politician who said something like, You can't take a country's sovereignty quickly, you have to accomplish it slowly but surely - so the general public doesn't realize what's happening...until it's too late.

Re: What kind of man is our prez?

I'm not as worried about losing our political freedoms. IMHO it's likely we'll always be able to travel freely, live where we choose, pursue a career of our choice, speak our minds, have at least a modicum of choice in who our leaders are, etc. (well, unless of course we lose the war on terror but that's another can of worms entirely). What worries me more is the economic freedom we've lost due to the huge entitlement & regulatory anchors our economy is dragging along. If we could significantly lessen those our economy would spring to life in a way rarely seen. The fundamentals are there but taxation & regulation are destroying our ability to compete.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">eh.. no, frankly, I don't get your point, because it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. and honestly, you should not talk to me about that, because there are numerous versions of that story and even more political sides of it. since it isn't you who shed your blood for our freedom (which we of caurse appreciate, that freedom), you should also not simply try to get either some credit for it or use it as an argument to shut me up. I don't know the story of your grandfather and if he was killed in combat over here or not (which I regret, especially if you knew him, unlikely though), but don't start talking like that to me, because I have heared these stories before and had some digifights with a couple of guys on the dream theater forum about that and to my experience there are only loosers in such a debate, so please, don't react on this with arguments for some point of view, nobody will gain anything by it.

Re: What kind of man is our prez?

My point iiiiiiiiiiiis, that it takes a lot of balls for ANYBODY from over there to criticize our country and its leader. Everything I said I had nothing to do with me and everything to do with what our country has done and is doing for its neighbors while the majority of them cowardly stand on the sidelines. But I agree with you as far as an argument ensuing. There is no argument. You state your opinion.... I state mine. Then we move on and have a beer together.

Re: What kind of man is our prez?

well, it is no secret most europeans don't care mutch for bush. basicly because we don't understand or appreciate the US way of politics. It is still the battle between the colonie and the motherland I guess. anyway, I am among those guys who especially dont understand and even more don't appreciate the way the things are going right now in the world (politically and military seen that is). so saying things like that are like a red rag for a bull to me . I guess I should learn to make things not worse than they in reality are...
anyway, I really appreciate your response, in the unlikely case of me visiting the US soon, I think that beer would't be a bad idea

i dont really like repubs or democs
but i try to pick who is the better out of the 2
and bush clearly is better than clinton ever was or kerry seems to promise

bush is protecting our freedom
sacrifices need to made (read: economy) to protect or freedom

without freedom and life what good is economy?

clinton did shit to protect our country, he was more worried about what flavor lipstick whoreharmoinca was wearing

but yeah, i do believe there are some hidden reasons why we are in Iraq, but for what those towel heads did to us, they deserve to fry, so i'm cool with it

my hat is off to out troops serving us there so i can wake up everyday and have my freedom

Re: What kind of man is our prez?

I read about half of the posts regarding this topic, then stopped. Here is the real deal people! when we were attacked on 9/11, that was a declaration of war against the USA. We as a nation were pissed off and wanted to teach whoever it was a lesson before we even knew who it was. That is our nature as Americans. Well, we found out who it was and went over there to kick ass. And we did. When the President declared war on terrorism, everybody was overwhelmed with patriotism. The President also warned the American people that this would take a long time, and that there will be sacrifices for under taking this war. Hear we are 2 short years later, and we have to hear alot of crying about how aweful the President is, and about how poor of a job he's done, and how all this is his fault. I gotta tell ya, we were thrusted into this situation, and frankley, I'm glad. This country has become very weak over the last 20 years. I've been a witness to this. Our younger citizens (between 30-under) are the laziest, selfish, unknowledgable bunch of little fuck faces I've ever seen. Not all mind you, but a vast majority of them have no clue what's going on. It's painfully obvious when you try to state the facts with some of them, and all they can do is use fowl language, and double talk there way thru what should be an intelligent conversation. I say, lets really broaden the war, and instill a draft. What better way to come to terms with your own mortality. Either you start useing your heads, or your dead. Whoever thinks that our nation can take even one more attack like 9/11, and survive as a Nation, you are 100% wrong. 9/11 crippled our economy, and was tha catalyst for alot of jobless people. If we as Americans just said "Fuck It", it would be over. End of story. Freedom does not mean FREE. You have to fight for freedom sometimes. People who do not agree with this war on TERRORISM, and are unwilling to accept the price tag for it, should rethink there citizenship. This country was founded on the word of GOD, and basic principles of humanity. We all have a roll to play. I can go on and on, but before you say something shameful, you should know what the hell you are talking about. Iraq is justifiable because we created that situation. Look it up. We gave him the WMD, and we know how much he used to KILL millions of his own people, and we know how much he has left. If he will kill his own people, he would not bat an eye at killing Americans. To just stand by, and wait for it to happen is just plain stupid.
