Re: What kind of man is our prez?

Republican=Democrat
Democrat=Republican

Example:

My best friend that I grew up with votes solid Democrat, down the line. Period. It isn't going to change, ever. Why? Because the union tells him to. That's what his dad did, and his grandfather did before him. To talk to him on many issues you'd think that he would be a Republican, but no, Democrat all the way, period. Only sees the Democrat view of the news. Would vote for Hillary because he "has to", even though he "hates that f****** c****".
"Well, it's better than that "piece of sh** Republican from Texas". That's it, end of discussion. You might as well argue with a fence post.

My cousin, who I'm very close to and one of my best friends in the whole world as well. (and a Gulf War veteran) Straight Republican. Why? Because Republicans can do no wrong, that's it, and that's that. Only sees the Republican side of the news. That's what his dad did, and his grandad before him. It's not going to change. Period. Won't even concede that Limbaugh might possibly have done an illegal drug or two. "Damn Media". If you disagree, you must be a commie conspiritor and you hate America...or something like that....Where is that fence post when you need it?

I realize these are just two particular examples that I'm most familiar with, and there is more to each side than I feel like typing at the moment and I've left a lot of stuff out...your results may vary..

I'm not saying everyone is like that but I'm willing to bet a good (voting) majority of people are.

It's very comical, yet, sad in a way. But that's ok, free country. You are free to express your opinions and/or be brainwashed as you wish.

Dems and Repubs are in it together, although some don't know it....and they have their fan base.

Democrat=Republican
Republican=Democrat

Re: What kind of man is our prez?

I think you're absolutely right on that but there's a little evidence that that's changing a bit. I ran across a study a couple of weeks back that indicated that 40% of the US electorate are registered as Democrats, 35% as Republicans while 25% consider themselves independent or support smaller parties (the overwhelming majority of the 25% being independents). The numbers for the previous election cycle were something like 48/34/18. Personally I find the fact that increasing numbers of people are turning away from the two major parties heartening.

Wow. Lot's of po'd folks around here. I wonder how many posters in this thread actually voted or will vote. For that matter how many are even old enough to vote. For the few of you with something intelligent to say, thanks.

I know, the correlation is not pretty accurate, but it is still pretty fun.

Re: What kind of man is our prez?

I'm bothering to vote in the upcoming election. Although I'm 32, I have never had any interest in voting until now.

I am upset by the obvious fact that so few Americans realize we are at war and the security of this nation is at stake. Many Americans seem to have lost the stomach for war, and the media captilizes on this. When you go to war, some fucked up shit happens. Our troops kill people, people get tortured, and yes, sometimes innocent civilians and children die. Not to sound cruel, but its simply the cost of doing business. On the home front us civilians have to surrender some of our civil liberties. Call me a fascist, but I'm all for checkpoints, road blocks, and having to carry government identification if that is the course which will make this nation secure.

I'm so sick of hearing about the so called prisoner abuse scandal. Its an internal affair that the Army is apparently dealing with correctly. Where are the Walter Kronkites of the 21st century? What has happened to responsibile reporting in times of war.

I live in a town that has a large military base. People I know are in Iraq and Afghanistan right now. I hate to think that their hands are tied because they are being made to fight a politically correct war.

We also have a medical school that attracts people from all over the world. Many of them (from middle-eastern countries) have told me to my face how they hate America and are glad that the 9/11 attacks took place. So, if the Arab world and Europe hates us so much, why are we concerned about what they think of us. To quote Ynqwie, its time to unleash the fucking fury.

We can argue this and that, but the fact remains there were 3 acts of war against this country while the last Democrat was in office, and we did NOTHING.

There is no option that would have left Sadam in power that I would have found acceptable.

Do you ever wonder why they call them parties anyhow? Parties are supposed to be fun. When I think of a party I think of fun things like music, firecrackers, alcohol, etc. When I think of Republicans and Democrats I think of unfun things like, well, politicians.

Re: What kind of man is our prez?

This will actually be my first election where I'll be allowed to vote. I'll be 20 in June.

The presidential position may very well be a figurehead, but certainly a figurehead with power (Contitutional Monarchy? What? ). The president brings his "people" with him, appointing them to his cabinet, replacing retiring judges, etc,. I still trust, and perhaps I'm foolish to, that the President has the final say on most things.

Someone else brought up a great point about President Bush's comments on gay marriage and all that stuff. Basically, those are hot-button emotional topics, designed to rally his constituents. Is it wrong? Most political jockeying smacks of insincerity to me, anyway. Is it propaganda? Perhaps.

I probably should have put this at the beginning, but I'm high on cold medicine right now.

In closing, and without a moment to spare, I'm an idealist. And a bit of a wierdo. But that's all cool, eh? I know that I love you guys ( I'm gonna try to say that in every post), and I want what's best for my family, the world, and myself.

When I'm the voice of reason and calm, you know it's getting bad.

I'll end with a quote;

"One thing we can all agree on, though, is that we all hate people on unicycles." - Dave Attell
