• troop supporting at my apt complex

hey all,

i just got a flyer (flier?) from my apt complex that says that they're having a "support the troops" drive. there's a few suggestions of donations (candy that won't melt, "off" bug spray with DEET, razors, lotion, magazines (heh), cd/dvds) and letters. so, since i'm all for supporting the men and women who are overseas fighting in that hellhole, i thought i'd share. if any of you guys would like to post well wishes, do it here, and i'll print it. if anyone would like to donate anything, pm me for my address.

let the well wishing begin!

Hey Sully, if I paypal you some $ would you be willing to use it buy 'em stuff? Seems silly for me to go buy gum and Off and ship it to Big D. Lemmie know.

As to well wishes, let me just say that I thank God every day that I live in a world with professional men and women like those in the service of our country. They honor us all, and I thank and respect them. And I hope to see them all back soon, with their loved ones.

Send my blessings please...
Also see if you can get a local hotel to donate the soap, razors, shampoo, etc. I know I do it from here when asked if I can.

I second the PayPal donations thing Kieth proposed.
And please print out and send along my well-wishes:

==================================================
To the brave men and women in the United States Armed Forces:
God Bless you all! Whether you believe in God or not, God believes in you, and so do we. While you are facing danger on a daily basis in Service to our Country, we here at home do remember you all in our prayers equally, no matter who you are, and we count you all as Heroes. Despite the petty political bickering back home, you are all at the forefront of our daily thoughts, and you are our Top Priority. Yes we all want our Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, Brothers, Sisters, Lovers, and Friends home with us today, but we also understand that there is a job that needs to be done - a very difficult job: To bring a piece of what makes America so wonderful to another country:
Freedom.
-Freedom from Tyranny, that they may decide who governs their land and people, and who does not.
-Freedom of both Mind and Body, to say what they think, and to go where they wish, when they wish, with whom they wish.
-Freedom of Choice, to decide for themselves whether they will be Doctors, Farmers, Poets, or Politicians.
-Freedom from Fear, that they may live, work, and play in Peace.

That is why you are there - to spread Joy to those who need it most. To help a people accustomed to living in darkness now live in the light. To help a generation born on their knees to stand on their feet. To help a great nation be a great nation.

God Bless you all, for He has truly blessed us and the people of Iraq and Afghanistan by giving us all of you.

i may do the hotel thing today, if you guys want to paypal $5 or so, that's fine, paypal id is jsullysix at aol dot com. too bad that gatorade gum would probably melt, that may have been helpful.

i'll get the hotel toiletries, maybe a case of gatorade or somethin (or maybe the powdered version?) a few issues of maxim and stuff and whatever else you guys can think of.

newc, that's a great message, and hell, even if no one donated anything but well wishes like that, that'd be awesome. so let's keep the thread goin!

good call tekky. i just got done reading a few old issues of maxim and stuff. those mags are great for morale. and doritos seem to be pretty damn popular over here. lots of the exchanges don't get large shipments of the good stuff, and when it does come in, it doesn't last long. and canned peanuts are good around these parts as well. just think of the things that you enjoy on a regular basis and think to yourself, would i be able to get this in a shithole place????? just the things that i am experiencing as i type this.

On behalf of the men and women serving over here, I just wanna say you guys are awesome!!! Just to give you guys a heads-up, don't send any magazines which contain any T&A. Due to the religious beliefs over here, they're not allowed so the packages would be confiscated by their customs officials. I would really hate for all your hard work to be in vain.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I initially wondered about that, too, but unlike the first Gulf War, since we aren't talking about shipping stuff into Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, I figure that there won't be any problems.

I mean, when you say "their customs officials," who exactly are we talking about? I honestly don't know, is there enough of an autonomous Iraq right now that "they" even have customs officials? And if so, do those customs doods look an awful lot like US troops? I mean, it isn't like this is a package that we're going to mail, that will be turned over to the Iraqi postal service at the border... it will board a military aircraft in the states, and will be unloaded from a military aircraft in Iraq.

I dunno. Just blabbing.

Can you send them pics of beautiful women dressed up like Iraqi women, but with like really sexy eyes (no eyeliner, just "the look") and have them posed kinda to the side so you see the dress draping over their melons?

Ah hell, carpet bomb them with Playboy and they'll be turning Mosques into casinos in a week

I'm not a postal worker so I don't know specific procedures, just relaying info we receive. It's also part of General Order 1 passed down from higher headquarters.
