• Blackout by the Scorpions

Is anyone else of the opinion that this song needs sped the fuck up and it would be that much better? I envision a young Metallica circa 1982 covering it, getting the chunka-chunk guitar of the verse up to takeoff speed, and really letting loose on the vocals, especially screaming "BLACKOUT!" during the chorus.

    TOmmy, Chuck, anyone?

It is a great song as it stands. Matthias Jabs does a great job with the fills on that song.

I think it should be left as is IMO .

The song breathes and has a good groove, and the fills are very fitting .

I think it is fine as it is and speeding it up would ruin it completely.

you guys are no fun. it's imagintion time! I'm not saying it's not a great song...proven by the fact I have been listening to it 3 times aday for the last 2 weeks. also, it has one of the best song titles ever.

but I think there needs to be a cover version or alternate take where the rhythm guitar underneath the verses is sped up.

Yeah, but look at what the Ataris did with the Boys of Summer by former Eagle Don Henley. They butchered/ruined it

Fuck, why don't you do a thrash version of New York Minute while you're at it

Or how about Enter Sandman by a American Legion Polka Band

If you want to hear Scorpions on steriod, try Sonata Arctica version of "Still Loving You". Don't reckon you can hear a better cover than this one.IMHO

                BTW, Sonata Arctica ROCKS!!!

BTW, if i remember correctly, Stratovarius did a cover for "Blackout". Zero idea on how it sounds, maybe somebody here that heard their version can give some comments.

I miss the old school of thought of allowing things to lay back and breathe. Even I tend to remember tunes faster than they are. Whenever I sit down and jam out "Seek and Destroy", I play it faster. I really like the way the slower version feels. I also find myself preferring the overdriven tone versus the over the top distorted sound. We need to get that old sound back and lay off the cookie cutter triple rectifier distortion in the rhythms.

Hey I figured out my problem. Go listen to the live version of Blackout on the World Wide Live Album. This has been my reference song. Durig the lead in, the intro guitar sounds like it's off to the races, but then the drummer comes in a few measures later and slows it down a bit. This is the source of my consternation. It was all subliminal.

Good one on the seek and destroy Jim, I play that one 3 times a week.

Do you ever find yourself playing it faster? I rarely play along with the song, but when I do I almost feel weighted down.

yeah I always play it faster. I know I'm doing it, but I can't help it. my buddy used to come over and play along and he'd be like "what the hell are you doing, slow it down."
