Everyone that says they need Dave back are fucking idiots. Have you seen a Roth concert the past few years, it's a joke. Even if Dave came back it still wouldn't be 1984 and you won't be 18 all over again. I like this song and it's a great alternitive to all the crap that they're pushing on the radio. F.U.C.K. and Balance are two of the best VH albums ever! [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] The old stuff was definitely cool and all, but Dave's voice wasn't all that great, IMO.

i've heard balance, and granted i would put that album on before alot of the stuff out now, but it just does not make my blood boil.
i am as big an eddie lover as the next guy, but
i really thought they were missing something since the breakup.
i'm glad you dig it though, that's what music is for.you see, i saw them every tour through the '84 album.
i saw them with sammy on the 5150 tour and never went back after that. the band has a completely different vibe (which is what eddie was probably looking for since him and roth could not get along)that leaves me flat. you gotta understand,
the fair warning tour was the sickest thing i have ever seen a band pull off. massive stage presence, accompanied by tunes from hell, and rapid fire machine gun guitar that resembled a tank. all of this with backflips and amp crashing to boot. and let's not forget the jack daniels.
what i'm saying is, there were days when i could not decide who i would rather be, dave or eddie.
no wrong choice between the two at the time. chicks swooned over this machine to boot. they had the respect of the musicians, and the panties of the chicks. a hell of an accomplishment. and the tunes, the fukkin' tunes crushed you with hooks and all. this was americas finest hard rock band ever issued. again, this is just me.

I love old VH as much as anybody, and I actually listen to more old stuff than new, but people just got to get it in their minds that dave and eddie will never be together again. Old Vh is some of the best shit ever, it's almost better than drugs and pussy but almost all vh does that for me.

There is three good songs off of Balance ..that's not a real good ratio ..

Even thogh if Dave lost his voice , looks and whatever ...he was a huge part of the Van Halen that smoked ..

In 1985 ...Van Halen wrote radio friendly love songs ....Dave wrote Eat 'em and smile with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan ...it made EVH look tame...even in 1985.

then he put out another CD with the same line up . then with Jason Becker....but at that time gutitar solos were 'uncool' and nobody cared so he had to make a buck ...so he did Vegas....Vegas ???!!

Then he did a short re-union that put the fire under Ed's ass..on those two tunes on The best of ..in '97

Then he put of DLR w / Marilyn Manson guitarist John Lowery ...that is a very Dave / Old school Van Halen album..lot's of fire...double bass , plenty of crazy solos ...he always seemed like he was trying to re-invent Van Halen or he was just being himself and that was the element of Van Halen..

I know Dave can't execute his talent as he once did ...but his passion for grandiose guitar playing is a must..

plus besides he hired a crappy VH tribute band to assist him on tour ....I was going to be picked to do that with him back in '97 with my VH tribute band but my wife got sick and spent 6 months in the hospital...so that fell by the way-side..we were wayyyyyyyyyy better than Atomic Punks..John posted my VH stuff a while back..sounds like a VH bootleg..

Well , at least Van Halen is doing something again .....but to me it's just a shell of what used to be..

The new song doesn't suck and Sammy sounds like he's putting his heart into it ...Ed sounds like he's just cruisin' by..again.

I don't want to be 18 again ...when I was 18 girls didn't shave downstairs and my face had to be burried in a grassy knoll every weekend.. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Bill, and a couple of others summed it up. Dave doesn't make Van Halen, but he makes them better. It's not all about the voice. Dave is a character, whereas Sammy is just a guy who sings. Sure, he sings great, and has recorded some great tunes with VH, but on a hot summer day, cruising around with the top down, I'm gonna listen to Jump, Panama, Running with the Devil, etc.

VH with Dave is the epitome of a rock band... Killer guitar, great beats, and a flashy front man. The old stuff kills! I do like alot of VanHagar though, especially F.U.C.K.

The problem is that the boys are getting older. Can you really see them at 50 writing songs about getting chicks and fast cars? Now that would be lame. Then again, Aerosmith still pulls it off

I'm of two minds about this--I thought that F.U.C.K. was a very good album, and a return to form after the first two Van Hagar albums, which I didn't care for.

But on the other hand, I've long believed that the real magic in VH disappeared after Fair Warning. To me, Diver Down and 1984 don't have the same dangerous magic that made the early VH so interesting--they became "safe and acceptable" starting with Diver Down, and that's not very much fun, is it? And 1984, don't even get me started...that's really where VH became a pop band.

In my sick and twisted mind, Fair Warning is easily the best VH album, and maybe one of the 10-best metal albums of all.
