  • what kind of chairs do you sit in while you play?

im currently using this really really crappy chair with huge wooden arms, so i have to move out and almost turn sideways so i can fit a guitar in my lap to play. its getting to be a real pain and obviously it poses a hazard to some of my guitars in which im concerned about the paint getting messed up

what kind of chairs do you guys use?

Stackable waiting room chairs because that's what's in my bedroom and basement, my two practice locations. In my bedroom, I use a footstool for my left leg and have been playing my electric guitars classical-style lately. It's SO much easier soloing when the guitar neck is further left of your body's centerline, I find. In the basement, I use the guitar case itself as a footstool for the classical position.

I also find that the lower you sit, the better the guitar hugs your body and it's a lot more stable. So, if you have one of those pneumatic height-adjustable chairs, try the classical position, put your left foot on a footstool, and lower your chair down. Soooooo comfortable to play guitar in. Usually a footrest that is adjustable, but I also practice excercies while watching TV just sitting up on a couch. I also practice standing up as well.

When in the living room where my equip. is, I stand. When I'm recording on the PC, rolling leather desk chair with arms. I need a stool.

Bar stool. They work great, but the crucial part is the leg rest.

office chair with no arms at my pc both legs propped up on the bed, on the floor sitting indian style guitar on my lap, couch sitting/laying anyway i happen to be at the time, standing with guitar slung high. i still cant get how to sling the guitar low like most do and play anything.
but actually my idea is to learn to play the guitar in any position i am in be it sitting/laying/standing

I sit on my computer chair. I lower it too so it's alot more easier to play.

Maybe i should start to practise standing up though..

I remember when I first started playing I used to just sit on my bed all the time. I didn't really get into bands until later and when I had to start standing up and playing, it was like I had to learn all over again. It was amazing how different everything felt when standing. Do yourself a favor and always stand when playing. Now if your just jammin on acoustics or electrics for fun, sitting is fine. But if you're practicing for real, I suggest standing.

I used to always sit and play. No matter what position I used, classical, resting on the right leg... my posture always becomes pretty bad after a while. And with that kind of posture and 4 hours of continuous playing... Some muscles on my back became really sore and uncomfortable...

I lived with it until recently when I got my Jackson... I tried practicing standing up for a week and now I never play sitting down. No muscle aches and it's so much more fun playing standing up. I think Jacksons are just great guitars for playing standing up.
