Was anyone but me lucky enough to go to that deal this past weekend? Incredible! BB King, Jimmy Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and John Maher(spelling?) jammin for an hour+!! Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, hey it's easier to say who wasn't on the bill than it is to list em all.
The auction by Christie's was unreal. Stevie's double neck Robin brought tears to my eyes. It's been a while back now but I got the pleasure of playing Stevie's No-Caster when it came to the Jackson/Charvel shop in Fort Worth. No one knew what it was until I took it apart and I still get chills thinking about it to this day. Lightly scrathed on the headstock was "Steve R Vaughan" like it was done with a razor. Butterscotch blonde, bakelite pickguard, beat to hell and oozing with tone, I mean just drippin man. It was like Mecca had come to me. There's a big story behind that one so I'll stop for now.
Being from Texas, I had the pleasure of seeing him play countless times and ran into him often at local music shops around town. He was the nicest guy, always had a kind word to say and could play like no one else around.
I guess I kinda twisted off from the original meaning of this, but hey He was all that was missing from the festival in my eyes.
