Re: DISTURBING EDDIE VH PHOTO

Well, VH is their namesake.... I wouldn't expect Ed or Alex to part as they're blood bros and the founding core of the group. I think the Van-Hager version has had more overall commercial business success than the Van-Roth version. But ya, many do consider the only 'real' Van Halen to be the original Van Halen with Roth in it just as others would consider Journey as Journey with Steve Perry. All in all, each have made a ton of money at it regardless of which version or spinoff. As long as these guys are living and able, they're gonna play.

I just gotta say DRS's "Who The F**k Is Eddie Van Halen" avatar should read "Where The F**K Is Eddie Van Halen" (for the last 20 years).

Give me a break with Van Hagar, there's no fire, never has been since he's in the band. Just pumping out commercial crap to make money (which is fine if that's your goal), but early VH was special, not just about selling records.

I agree that the early records were special, who who says they weren't about making money, or selling records? That's a pretty bold statement to make if you can't back it up, Ralph. I'm quite sure the boys were very eager to repeat the success of VHI with the subsequent albums, but missed the mark until 1984. The Van Halen boys are in the music business, not the music salvation army and are entitled to do it however they choose. Why not be happy for EVH? Being able to rebound from the crap he has endured in the last number of years, is an accomplishment. Yes, he is the author of most(all) of his troubles, but he is giving it a shot and that's why I'm 100% behind him...regardless of vocalist. I'm a die-hard EVH fan for life, he is the reason for me...not Dave, Alex, Mike, Sammy or anyone else. Just Eddie.

Re: DISTURBING EDDIE VH PHOTO

Sorry, my meaning was that aside from the goal of selling records (which to me is a given), the early records (first four) had a special quality to them that has not been recaptured since.

Just an opinion, although it seems to be a popular one. There is a reason tribute records only have DLR era songs, and jokes are made of the real VH being with Dave (Airheads, Wedding Singer). I think there is a rift between "musicians" and "fans" in that VH was more commercially successful with "fans" (during the Sammy years), but "musicians" appreciate the fire and style that early VH had that disappeared even during the end of the Dave era.

I listen to VH for Eddie, not Dave or Sammy or Gary. ALl is Vh is good VH, I'm just sick of all these people saying Eddie hasn't done anything for 20 fucking years. Get out and enjoy life insted of staying locked up in your room whacking off to Diver Down for the past 20 years

I don't know who looks worse, Eddie or the ticket broker/scalpers. The tickets on the "Bay are not selling like hotcakes. I hope this isn't going to be their " Tour de Farce"
I am a true ass set to this board.

Re: DISTURBING EDDIE VH PHOTO

I agree with Ralph. The 1st albums with Roth. VH1, VH2, Women & Children First, Fair Warning, (Diver Down is the weakest link - and even it has more mojo the most Sammy era stuff) are clearly superior to most badass guitarists / musicians. The pop friendly songwriting, less agressive guitar sound and increased radio play exposure is mostly what helped Van Hagar sell records. The old Roth era fans were either sorely disappointed or were curious to see if Ed would get Roth back. Ed lost his edge when Roth left and its never been or going to be the same since. Those fans that were younger when Roth was already out of the band - some didn't listen to the Roth stuff and was oblivious to it. Ed & Al fucked over Roth, then they fucked over Roth again in '96. I don't dislike Hager - just think he's not right for VH. If you are a fan of Van Hager, then you probably think I'm a prick and don't see a problem. The VH bros. screwed over Hager too, remember? Cherone had no viability with sucess with VH as he did in Extreme. Singers are a band's strong identity. The VH bros. think the VH name trumps everything because of Eddie's early notority as a pioneer guitarist and Van Hager's commercial success with Hager. I couldn't believe it when I saw Ed's 13 year old son Wolfgang on stage with them in rehersal! Watch our Mike, Ed's secretly training Wolie to handle future bass duties for VH. I hope Ed has his health together and enjoys success with the tour regardless of his politics / decision making. Its just that the '78-'84 period was most memorable to the majority of serious harder edged players. George Lynch is a little older than EVH and I bet he can smoke Ed, no contest.
