Ha, I've only been down at speed once...other couple getoffs were at less than 5MPH (one of them I got rear ended and jumped off the bike, landing on my feet!). One time I got side-swiped by a BMW 850 on the 5 freeway going about 50 MPH. Didn't go down, no damage to me, but you should've seen his smashed up door (my knee hit it as he turned into me while I was swerving away). Fun times.

What about the DOT Snell requirement? I red about but I can't remember. Can anyone refresh my mind? My helmet is DOT Snell M95, and I knew, but I can't remember what it means...

I am not a bike rider. I got stopped once and the cop asked if my helmet was "Dot" approved. I said in was approved by "Good and Plenty". He didn't think that was funny and neither do I. "Snicker"

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">DOT means the helmet is certified by the US Department of Transportation as meeting its minimum requirements. Most states in the US that have helmet laws require them to bear the DOT certification.

The Snell Foundation carries out a more stringent set of tests. Having a helmet tested by Snell is completely optional and using Snell's certification mark required an additional charge. Most helmet manufacturers eventually obtain Snell certifcation for their designs because it's a useful marketing tool. But if you're buying a lid, an SMF-approved lid is the way to go.

You bet your ass Racer better be careful. Between the two of us, we're packing close to 600 pounds. I hope his bike is a 10,000cc model.

You can't really ride a bike without a helmet anyway.. once you hit 50mph your eyes will start tearing up, and the faster you go the more unbearable it gets. So aside from safety, wearing a helmet is simply practical.
