Re: Opinions

I just stumbled across this thread. As one of the few motocrossers on the board, you know I have to sound off. I am cool with a persons choice to choose if he/she wants to be an organ donor or not. I have seen many crashes in sanctioned races and during play riding forays with my friends. In several of those crashes the helmet saved someone's life. The safety factor of a helmet does not come into play in every crash and in motocross the helmet is notorious for breaking collarbones. I myself have done this.
But that crash has never made me question the safety of helmets. My best friend and I were racing through a woody section on Oahu. He hit a small sapling with his handlebar, the impact shattered his right forearm. He ping ponged off of several trees like a rag doll. His bell moto 6 helmet was cracked in 3 different places and the foam liner had compressed flat in several places. He walked out of the woods that day with a shattered arm and a light concussion. The paramedics could believe he didn't suffer more head trauma by looking at the damage the helmet sustained. He still has the helmet as a reminder and he still rides. After seeing his crash I went out and purchased a Bell moto 6 helmet. I just replaced two years ago with a Shoei VFX. Wearing a cheap helmet is as dangerous as not wearing one at all. When my triplets get their first bike next year they will wear a helmet at all times.
To those of you who choose not to wear good luck and stay healthy. Keep it on two wheels.

Brian

Yummmm, bugs.... Nothing wrong with a good Model Fear Factor once in a while... ( look ma, no bugs in those teeth )

Anyway, for you guys and the Motorcross and 3 wheelers, I've never been on a bike like that without a helmet and I won't either, there's something different about that, for sure.

as someone born a biker, with biker parents, been ridin since i was 5 on my own bike. heres my take on it:
let those who ride decide!
as for leathers, i have seen newbs in head to toe leather with a full face lid on a new bike, they wanna sweat to death for looks thats their choice not mine and not the gov's.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Amen! KMaynard. I don't know why the hell some people called idiot, moron, and even asshole to other people, because of their different opinions. Ain't this the land of freedom, everyone have the right to freedom of expression, BUT their rights ends when other people rights begins to take place. That way everyone should live in peace, respecting everyone, so they can hope respect for themselves. So, enjoy your ride in your car, with or without seatbelt; enjoy your ride in your two wheeler, with or without helmet/leather/boots. And above all that, with or without those things, be carefull and live in peace... or die in peace .

Oh I forgot, Is there some place with laws for leather in bikes? I haven't heard about. Or the leather things are just an individual matter for protection against abrassion?

Re: Opinions

morbid, there are no laws about wearing leathers.
Tennessee has a new law about car seats for kids now that states the child must be at least 68 inches tall to be out of a car seat, (like the ones used for babies) not sure how that affects kids on bikes yet. other new law for bikes are that you dont have to sit at a red light if you are on a bike. you pull up to the light, come to a full stop and if its clear you can go. in december we vote on the lid law again, and hope to change it to your choice if you have insurance, but i expect that to be put off again like it was last yr.

Hey Sailor: Leather should be an option, but studs should be mandatory. Seriously. The right to have roadrash and burnt feet is a God-given right. There is no excuse for not wearing a bucket. Clean-up is so much easier.

Re: Opinions

It's funny how someone's opinion of another person's opinion changes when suddenly they're in the idiot and moron group.

I'll say it again, and I'll even say it to your face three times on Sunday. Riding a bike without a helmet is fucking stupid, and you're a moron for doing so. Every time I see some dipshit riding without a helmet I just want to ram a metal bar between his spokes while he's moving and watch him fly Chuck Jones style into a wall and accordion his ass on it. Then I'd go 'MEEP MEEP!' and disappear in a cloud of smoke.

See, where I'm different than most people is that I welcome vigilante justice in small doses. Doing something stupid should get you punched in the face. Maybe we could issue cards that list the stupid shit you've been punched in the face for, so that way you wouldn't constantly get punched for stupid shit like riding without a helmet, or buying a gas station hotdog. Make each punch in the face good for between 1-8 weeks, depending on the stupidity of the reason for the punch in the face. Running red lights could get you punched in the face weekly, but watching a Mary Kate and Ashley movie if you're not a 12 year old girl would only get you punched once every couple of months.

It would work, and you know it.
