• Expose your JCF bruthas to a new band!

Okay, so I was just reading the thread about the Wildhearts, a band I'd never heard of. Based on the thread, I looked them up on CD Now and listened to a couple samples. Holy shite. Then I find their website and download a couple videos. My jaw hits the ground. Where has this band been all my life, I want to know?

Long story short, I have some Wildhearts catchin' up to do.

But that got me thinking: There are tons of bands out there that absolutely freaking kill...only we rarely hear about them. So let's use this thread to expose a favorite band or two of yours to your fellow JCFers.

Here's the rules: They don't have to be a new band. They don't need to be around anymore. They DO have to have CDs that are readily accessible to most anyone (and by that I mean via CDNow, the band's website, whatever). Most importantly, they have to be a band (or bands) that you think everybody should know about.

Ready? Let's play. I'll start.

The band I think you should know about (other than Crankdaddy natch) is:

Supagroup.

Great band out of New Orleans. They rock hard and wear their AC/DC influence on their sleeve.
I think you can find them at Supagroup website

The second band I think you should know about is:

Brand New Sin.

This is a band outta my hometown of Syracuse. Great, heavy sound...great vocals (that you can actually understand), and killer, catchy songs that define the old-school term "hard rock." Find out about them here Brand New Sin Website

Hope you enjoy.

Now let's see yours!

SunnO))) - Drone doom destruction. Once described as "The sound of two slugs fucking." How could you NOT like that? http://www.southernlord.com

Yeti - Imagine listening to Sabbath while tripping on acid and watching an all-day horror movie marathon. Yeah, they're something like that... only weirder. http://www.lifeisabuse.com

Isis - A lot of bands are described as 'monolithic', but Isis makes them all look like mere lage blocks of stone. You heard me. http://www.hydrahead.com

High on Fire - The epitome of heavy fucking metal. Further proof 80's bands were a bunch of prissy wuss-asses. Follows the spiritual lineage of Motorhead and Venom. http://www.relapse.com

Floor - The best band on the face of the planet. Their CD is one of the best albums ever put out, but it is total shite compared to their live show. http://www.noidearecords.com

I could go on and on, but the chances of anyone here liking the shit I listen to are very, very slim.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">my musical tastes have been much very in line with yours lately, actually

I could also go on and on, but a few choice picks:

Grave At Sea - http://www.gravesatsea.com/ nice crusty bleak doom from arizona. I was at greg anderson's b-day party bash/southern lord showcase a couple weeks ago and they absolutely blew me away. Silverlake hipsters were fleeing the room in droves. They rocked so hard the singers head actually exploded (he was dripping blood for the entire second half of the set, I think he clocked himself in the head with the mic. Their guitarist has the _thickest_ nastiest tone - filthy and beautiful

YOB - http://www.yobdoom.com/ _heavy_, but somehow actually 'positive' sounding doom, if that makes any sense, from oregon. Not all upbeat, but it runs the gamut of emotions much more than most doom bands seem to.

Ocean Chief - http://www.oceanchief.tk/ very epic heavy psychedelic doom.

Buried At Sea - I was obsessed with their album (I think they're coming out with something new very very soon) for the longest time after getting it, sooooo good. Sorta like Eyehategod, but slower and BIGGER. If you like Isis, definetely check these guys out.

Ufomammut - Their first album, Godlike Snake was awesome, but their new one "Snailking" is insane. All over the place, but consistently trippy the whole way through. overloads of fuzz and delay.

I'm definetely going to check out Yeti based on your description, Black Mariah

this may be a horrible question, but anyone got anything that's not extreme metal?

my first offering is concrete blonde. get bloodletting, and mexican moon. listen to mexican moon on headphones and enjoy the layers. johnette napolitano has one of THE best voices ever; their cover of little wing is amazing, and their guitar player, jim mankey is great at layering his sound.

next is jane's addiction. nothing's shocking is one of the best albums ever. listen to the first songs at a good volume, and if you're not in awe of their sheer power and majesty, i'll send you the money you spent on their disc. get past the image, and enjoy.

next is johnny cash. pick up american III - solitary man and give it a good listen. it's a great record, and he was meant to sing "i won't back down."

this may be a bit too far for the board, but nick cave rules; i recommend henry's dream, the good son (the ship song is amazing), and let love in. some of his stuff is a bit harsh and experimentalish, but he's a great writer.

peter murphy's deep and holy smoke are also worth checking out. peter was the singer in bauhaus; one of the founders of goth. great great voice.

anyway, that's what i got so far. glad to hear that some are enjoying the wildhearts; definitely start with earth vs. the wildhearts.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm a big fan of Tak Matsumoto, a Japanese guitarist/songwriter. I'm big on all the shred guitarists like Satriani, Vai, etc. I think Charlie Hunter is pretty cool jazz guitarist. I'm a fan of Greg Howard, an amazing chapman stick player. I love trumpet players like Bobby Shew, Wynton Marsalis, Arturo Sandoval, and Woody Shaw. I collect a lot of anime, game, movie, and play soundtracks. Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy music composer) is so the shit! And lastly (I think), I love Classical composers like Beethoven, Bach, etc.

However, for the majority of my listening, I'm an extreme metal head\m/! Kill people, destroy christianity, slay dragons, and other stuff like that flows through my head throughout the day!
