I will, however, check out that Manson song. Never was much of a Manson fan, but he has done a couple things I like.
That Floor tune is pretty cool. Not really my cup of tea, but cool none-the-less. Never thought I'd say this about that kind of singing, but I like their vocals. And the super low tuned bass string thing is awesome.\m/

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, they are. I first heard of them and saw them when they opened for Dream Theater in 99. They impressed the hell out of me live. Their studio stuff is not as impressive, but they go all out when they play concerts. Mostly acoustic.
Petrucci stood at the side of the stage and watched their whole set, and joined them at the end to play some shit. Its the only time I've ever heard him play acoustic. I'd say grab "5 Years in a LiveTime" DT does an acoustic set and on it is one of their best B-Sides, "Cover My Eyes".

Yeah, I've heard about that but haven't heard it yet. Thanks.
Yeah, Mars Volta! They are insane. I can't listen to their stuff all the time, but when I'm in the mood for it it's great. Also check out where the Mars Volta came from-At The Drive In.
Amaran--Swedish death metal, but with melodic female vocals instead of a growler. Just a great band. Try their new album "Pristine in Bondage"
The Flower Kings--the best prog band in the world right now. Imagine Yes, Frank Zappa, and the Allman Bros. all worked in together. Their most recent studio album, "Unfold the Future" is a two-disc set of unbelievably good music. Roine Stolt is a great "feel" guitar player who can make a jam come alive.
Aghora--death metal meets Mahavishnu Orchestra. I probably shouldn't have listed these guys, since their one album is basically impossible to find now--it was self-released by the band and they are currently somewhat 'dormant'. But if you can find it, check it out. I think used copies of it are listed on Amazon. They are led by a Venezuelan guitarist, Santiago Dobles, who plays like a combo of Petrucci and McLaughlin. His sister is the singer--she's a trained jazz vocalist, and her singing reminds me a bit of Gayle Moran in the Mk. II version of Mahavishnu Orch.--very clean and pure, with difficult jazzy melodies and articulation. They aren't easy to categorize--too clean to be metal, too heavy to be jazz, but just fucking amazing whatever they are.

Interestingly, Mike Portnoy did all the drumming on Morse's newest solo album, which is a strange (and not that great) 'Christian prog' effort called "Testimony."
SB have carried on with drummer Nick D'Virgilio taking over lead vocals, but the new material I've heard just isn't the same. Morse is a great songwriter, and the band was largely his vision to begin with.
If you want the best SB album to go with, check out "V", which was released in 2000. Also, Morse and Portnoy teamed with guys from the Flower Kings and Marillion to form Transatlantic, which released two incredibly good albums that are very Spock's Beard-like.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">My old band used to do a Pro-Pain cover. They were decent, but I never got into them as much as the Crumbs. I believe Gary has been in a whole pile of other bands at various times too.

Based on the thread, I looked them up on CD Now and listened to a couple samples. Holy shite. Then I find their website and download a couple videos. My jaw hits the ground. Where has this band been all my life, I want to know?
Long story short, I have some Wildhearts catchin' up to do.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I can't believe I missed this thread! I'm the one that started the Wildhearts thread. I've got a lot of catching up to do, too. I'm going to see them live tonight in Philly!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I've got "Giftgas - A Children's Story By Throbbing Gristle"... a/k/a "Reasons To Kill People". This is a cd Bill should own: songs like As it is... Exit, Lucifer, Jehovah, Satan, Christ, So Be it...
I haven't listened to it in a very long time. Genesis P-Orridge is cool!
