Sorry Newc, I think you're wrong. Stand in the anatomical position. Your elbows point back and your knees point forward. Get down on all fours, now your elbows point toward the midesction, as do the knees. On a dog, the joints are the same. On the hindquarters, what you see pointing backward is actually a portion of the ankle joint. On the front legs (or arms becaue dogs do have elbows) the lower joint is equivolent to our wrist.

It looks like Newc has the right answer...he agreed with me...and we all know Im always right...its in the rule book...Rule #1 Mrs LPC is always without a doubt right in every situation...Rule #2...if Mrs LPC is thought to be wrong...see Rule #1. Thats the way the book reads in my house anyway..

There is an elbow joint. Below that is the carpius which is similar to the wrist on humans. The carpius is actually more often mistaken for a knee joint due to the location on the lower extremity. As well, the hock joint, which is simialr to the ankle in humans is commonly thought to be a knee. When in fact, the knee on a dog is located higher on the leg. Sorry Mrs. LPC.
