• No feedback from the seller until I get the stuff?

Hey, has this happened to anyone here yet?

I have payed the seller and he told me that he's received the money, but he doesn't want to give me a positive feedback until I receive the stuff and try it out.
He said to me that if the pickup won't work, he'll give me a neutral feedback.

I think that my part of the deal is done and he can give me a positive feedback, because everything has gone smooth from my side.
Now I am waiting for the pickup.

Should I give him feedback even though he wouldn't give it to me? Or shall smack him with a negative one?

I think I am the one that has to give a feedback about stuff working or not.

Welcome to the world of feedback extortion. He's not going to give you a positive feedback unless you give him one. If you have his email saying that he's going to give you a neutral if the pickup he sold doesn't work, then forward it to Ebay with full header and he will be suspended or expelled for feedback extortion. DON'T discuss it with him, just do it. If you warn him, he'll neg you and it's harder to remove a neg than it is to get him busted so he can't leave it in the first place.

Now if he sold you the pickup stating that it may not work, that's a whole different story. Then you would not have the right to neg him if it doesn't work because you'd be aware of the possibility.

The seller said that it works flawlessly.

I'll wait until I get the pickup and try it out.

Feedback is funny - a lot of Sellers wait until the Buyer leaves feedback, but then some buyers leave negative feedback over the tiniest of details (picking swirls, signs of normal use, etc). Of course, this is understandable if the Seller says "Dead Mint" or "Never Been Played" and the item is NOT dead mint. Some people consider Mint to be "only toured across America twice for 3 years straight in a backwoods bar band". Never mind that it's been dropped, dented up, and used as a boot scraper or baseball bat once or twice.

Personally, I'd rather wait until the buyer has received the item, so if he wants a refund or whatever and isn't pissy about it I can leave a positive about the communication (if it's friendly and not insulting or accusational), speed of payment, and then say sorry it didn't work out.

Re: No feedback from the seller until I get the stuff?

I would give a negative feedback only in extreme situations.

Let's take a guitar and a pickup for example. If the seller says that guitar is dead mint and picture points out that too, but the guitar that comes to me is beat up like shit, I would go with negative feedback.
But if the pickup wouldn't work, I wouldn't give the seller a negative feedback, because noone can assure that the seller was lying in the description. The pickup may have been working for the time he owned it, and maybe someone on the post dropped down the package and pickup went wrong.

Who knows. But when I sell things, I always give positive reply when I receive money. And there's nothing to be afraid of for me, because all my descriptions are true. I even mention every scratch and count them down, if there are that many. I also mention if the scratches or failures are on the visible or invisible parts. It's better to sell something in average condition for 50 USD than lying and trying to sell it for 100, but no one will buy it.

True. Then again, Confession is good for the soul, but bad for the career

Actually, I'm the same way - I usually take extreme closeups of as much of the damage as I can, so you get the feeling (and the same view) as if you were holding the guitar in your hands before you bought it. Sometimes it scares people away because they're not used to seeing a split nose of a headstock taking up 2"-4" of the computer screen

I always wait to leave feedback. I want to make sure you are happy and things can be worked out if need be. I have three negs from Dead Beat Bidders. All because they didn't want to pay. The ebay feedback system does NOT work.

Re: No feedback from the seller until I get the stuff?

I stand by what I sell, and write very frank item descriptions. I almost always (uh... I think always) leave feedback just as soon as I get paid. If I don't hear from the buyer, just get the money, then I write "Fast payment! Thanks!" if (duh) it was fast. If I get paid AND hear from them, I write "Fast payment, great communication!" if (duh) it was fast and they know how to use email.

And buyers almost never leave me feedback. Maybe 1/2 the time. But I'm over it. I'm happy with how I do things, if the buyers are douchebags, that is their problem, not mine.

And I always ALWAYS ALWAYS report feedback extortion, illegal surcharges ("add 3% if paying by paypal"), deadbeat bidders, and other prohibited practices. Lots of times, like with surcharges, ebay pulls the offending auction. Don't think they ever do anything about the extortion, but I block the user from ever bidding on my stuff.

I have more problems as a buyer, I guess. That is why I always ask the seller some question: 1/2 the time, I get a nice response, then I bid. The other 1/2, I either get nothing, or some dumbass reply. And I don't bid.

My two cents.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I Have to agree. I always wait until the deal is complete (after the buyer has the item and is happy) before leaving feedback. This way I'm sure that the buyer will leave good feedback for me also because he or she has already stated that they are happy with the item. When I first started selling on ebay, I used to give good feedback immediately after I was paid for the item. I was threatened 3 times with feedback "extortion" because the buyer played the game of "it was lost in the mail" or "this item isn't how you described it". Well since I've changed my method as explained above, this has not happened to me once.
Again though, the ebay feedback system sucks...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Agree. I think many users pump up their feedback buying small stuff.

Actually, i think i could make money off selling feedback. I could start out by creating say 10 profiles and sell an imaginary product with a Buy It Now of $1. Any buyer could then buy the item 10 times and get 10 instant positive feedbacks without hassle. No item to ship, no shipping charges or wait time, just an imaginary product. I could make more profiles if need be. Quick way to speed your counter with guaranteed positives buying from me.

I guess eBay would spot me pretty quick, or?

Selling some small parts is the way I keep eBay going for me.

I agree with shawn, I've sold a ton of cars on the bay but only have like a +200 with one negitive, but it should show that I've sold $20,000 in cars in the past few years, with all good feedback except for 1 dumbass who thought for 4K he'd get a 20k perfect 1956 Ford Fairlane.
