The south fired the first shot, declared war, and claimed the first death in battle. All that shit you said came afterwards. If the south didn't like it, then maybe they shouldn't have fired that first shot.

Also, most of the western US was neutral, and in case if you've never been to places like the California valley, the west also had fertile regions with long growing seasons. They didn't stop dealing with the rest of the country because of the war.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The Northern government had already started their plans to overtake the Southern farmlands (which were closer to the facilities than the West Coast fields) before the War, plus Cattle Ranchers wanted the West because it was prime grazing land for cattle. The reps of the Confederate States had already met and rebuked the Northern plan (which was basically "The North owns the land, the South works the fields, and the North makes all the money") and decided to secede from the Union. The ONLY way for the North to get access to the land was to either buy the crops at reasonable (read: profitable for the farmers) rates OR take it by force.

The first battle of the Civil War started as an insult to the Confederate Army - Northern Officers in their Dress Uniforms brought their women and children and treated it like a picnic, stating that the Southerners were like spoiled, undisciplined children who would cower at the sight of one Union Officer.
Most of the Yankees were killed at that spot, including some of the women (Officers probably hiding behind them and firing on the Rebels).

They're the biggest pack of tools I've ever seen with not even being allowed to race until the car is covered from bumper to bumper in ads, and the worst part is how the drivers think they actually look cool in bright red jumpsuits with logos for Viagra and laundry soap on them.

I'll agree with you about NASCAR, but Newc's comments about the causes of the Civil War have validity. There are a number of professors at the local university who have made the same argument.

Truthfully, the war was not about ending slavery. I cringed when I read in a high school history textbook that the Southern states started the war because they did not want to free their slaves per Lincoln's order. I guess the authors missed the fact that the Emancipation Proclamation was issued well into the war.

However, look at the US compared to countries in Eastern Europe and Africa concerning the resolution of hostilities between its peoples. You will not see an ethnic cleansing of Northerners taking place here. Although Northern soldiers were guilty of looting the south and raping and murdering thousands of innocent women and children, our nation has moved past those unfortunate events, all further proof that our sysstem of government, despite its flaws, does work.

This kind of behavior is unexceptable within the civilized world. It is time to learn from the past. I completely 100% back our presidents decision to go into Iraq. He pledgeed to the nation and the world to take on terrorism abroad. He did not say we are just going to concentrate on the taliban. I wonder why the press has forgotten his address to the world. With every violent act they committ, they lose ground! The world will not back down from such acts. It is just a matter of time, that the world will come together and go to the middle east and straighten things out. Unfortunatly, there have been a few countries that just didn't get the big picture. These kinds of instances do not happen just to the USA. They will happen everywhere. I just don't understand why people have to be afraid to fight for what is right. If you are a person that exercises free will, and can do pretty much anything you want, then you should also be willing to fight for those freedoms. If you are scared to face the truth about freedom, then you should rethink your life. Freedom is not free, it comes with great responsability, and sometimes great sacrifice. To just look the other way because it doesn't directly effect you is irresponsible and cowerdly. It's kind of like driving a car. Driving is a priviledge, not a right. To live in a free society is a priviledge, not your right.
