    Re: RUSH!!!!!!

I have a boot of the first night of this current tour, and they sound great. What did you think of the show?

I've seen them approximately a million fukkin' times over the years, and they always put on a good show. I missed the Vapour Trails tour last time around, so I might have to check them out on this tour.

      Re: RUSH!!!!!!

Wow, it's cool to see some Rush fans speaking up! I'm 37 and I've probably seen them 8 or 10 times, including the Test For Eco and Vapour Trails tours. True, they have made some significant changes in direction over the years but I have always been able to mold my tastes as they evolved. One of my first albums/records was 2112. I later picked up greats like Caress of Steel, Moving Pictures, etc. 2112 was so incredibly heavy for a prog band. Then Moving Pictures came and blew everything else away; what an incredible album. I recall in the mid 80s when Rush really took on a sort of new wave vibe. More recently, Test for Echo rocked quite well. I played "Driven" in a band during that period, tough tune to write guitar presets for.
Rush will always be in my top 2 or 3 bands of all time, along with Boston, Dream Theater, and Def Leppard.
I did miss the Rush show this time around and sadly, it will probably be the last.

yo, Diamond. I don't think it is rock PC to think Rush is great. All I know, is plug them in and relax. I don't care whether the music comes out of electronic do-dads, Rush rocks. The only thing I hate are drum machines, and the last time I checked they have a drummer.
I am a true ass set to this board.

Great interview by Brian Catterson published in Cycle World Magazine- a definite must read for the Neil Peart fan:

oooo my god, the show was incredible. they opened with spirit of the radio and went into some of the 80's stuff and then subdivisions. it was totally badass. me and my cousin lit up a j during intermission. tom sawyer was the first song after intermission and the next was red sector. they had this crazy ass laser light show during that song. it tripped me out. the played 2112, overture, temple, and finale. by-tor, anthem, red barchetta, yyz, and for the final song, limelight. it was cool cuz during by-tor they showed this cartoon of a blue dog and a brown dog chasing each other while neil peart was watching them making faces to everything they did. and yes, neil peart did bust out with a phat ass drum solo. it was probably the most incredible show i've ever seen.

When I saw them in 1996 they changed to guitars tuned to D for the old stuff, like 2112. Geddy also didn't hit all the high notes like he used to, but they were still incredible.

Yeah, I haven't heard Geddy hit the 2112 notes for many, many tours. One of the more recent tours, they played ALL of 2112 for the second half of the concert. WOW!

If anyone is into tribute acts, check out Thunderhead, a tribute to Rush if they ever come thru your town. They're from somewhere around here, I believe and are made up of 2 brothers, who are Geddy and Alex, and a drummer who is nothing short of incredible. The bassist looks like Ged, plays Taurus pedals, keys, and bass too. Most of their covers are top notch including a near perfect version of YYZ (the live version w/ the drum solo). They do use a sequencer/sampler for some parts but they almost have to.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Heck, the real Rush does that too. The recent albums have lots of overdubbed backing vocals and rhythm guitar parts, and most of those are sampled/sequenced so that they can be used in the stage show, as well. I have to admit that, based on live recordings, Rush was a better live band before they started using lots of that technology. Listen to recordings from any tour before Permanent Waves, and they seemed a bit more aggressive and would take more chances on stage. The sequencers kind of killed that off, unfortunately. Still a great live band today, though.
