Thank you very much for posting this link. I've been reading it and finding it very interesting. Michael Moore is a paradox, attempting to kick American society in the groin while revelling in his ability to offer forth his version of "free speech" which might be dangerously close to libel. As a friend of mine recently said, his version of a great Michael Moore film would end with Moore kneeling before six AK-47-wielding Muslim terrorists and screaming his head off... before it's blown off.

Actually, its not funny. Its messed up, but its how it goes. You have all these stupid people running around being tyranical (doesn't matter what country you're in) and someone has to babysitt. Good ol' USA and her allies to the rescue (as usual).
Some folks in the armed forces (military, cop, whatever) get real gung-ho and stupid about it, but most end up with the attitude that its just so fucking lame. There is no two ways about it- your country sends you to do a job, you do it.

After 9-11 everyone is all "Get the bastards!!". People were enlisting left and right.
Then all of a sudden you don't see the flags flying anymore and you get hollyweird out raising all kinds of hell and being idiots (what else is new).
The Entertainment Tonight watchers catch on- and all of a sudden the government and the troops are all spit upon. Their families too. And now everyone hates America. And don't give me this "support the troops" crap and then turn and spit upon your own country by bashing its ideals. You might as well turn to your nearest veteran and slap them in the face.
Whatever.

If my own kids pulled this kind of attitude with me, they could expect I wouldn't come running next time they start calling.

You know what would be a fantastic idea? Get the hollyweird soapbox whackos in some combat boots, issue them their chem gear and send 'em on out.

..One of my old cop buds just sent this to me I thought it fits the thread ...so here goes..

You've probably heard of Sheriff Joe Arpaio of the Maricopa County
jail in Arizona and know most of the story, but keep reading to the end
for a GREAT update on "Sheriff Joe".

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the
inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails;
He took away their weights; He cut off all but "G" movies. He started
chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city
projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued
for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court
order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV
again but only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel. When
asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's
gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the
inmates complained, he told them.....this is a good one......"This isn't
the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes
into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by
a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain
why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116
degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports:
About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire surrounded tent
encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to
strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.
On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up
on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees
inside the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as
sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.
"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate
who has lived in the tents for 1 1/2 years. "It's inhumane." Joe
Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago
started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is
not one bit sympathetic.

He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates:
"It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too,
and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any
crimes.
. . So shut your damned mouths."

You would know more about jails and prisons than I do, Bill, but WHY don't all penitentiaries do this?
I agree with the beer and weed, btw- great idea. I seem to remember our Native Americans discussing and settling ideas and disputes with the peace pipe. Take a cue, huh?

Well, Sheriff Joe runs the County Jail for Maricopa County; state and Federal prisons are more likely to get sued if they don't provide AC, etc... [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img]

What happened to the American trait wherein we stopped arguing when an external threat came along? We used to realize that we're all Americans before we're members of a political party, but that seems to be a thing of the past. It's a real sign that a nation has gone decadent when part of its people hate their own country because it's great, and do so to try and impress people of other nations. Don't they know Osama sees them as traitors as well as infidels? "Kill all infidels" means ALL infidels, ya dumb

Problem is is that not only we are divided by much of the world we stand divided right here in our own home ...Racialy , Religiously and politicaly ...free choice is one thing but when it becomes harmful to all ...then it sould be governed willingly by ourselves ....but this will never happen..

I'm not going to waste my money. Dodgeball looks like more of an impressive documentary than any of Moore's films.
