• Ronnie Jame Dio

I was wondering if anyone has his last 2 cd's?
    Magica and Killing the Dragon?

    Are they any good?
Id like to get a feel of the over all mood of it compared to old Dio...

I've heard most of both CDs and they're typical Dio. His musical style really hasn't changed much over the years. "Killing the dragon" has a more classical vibe to it musically.

If you like Holy Diver and Last in Line you should like these too.

Firstly I must say that Ronnie is my favorite singer ever and it would be my dream gig to jam with him!

Magica is a solid album but it lacks the fun of earlier Dio outings because the entire album is driven by the concept. It's also a lot slower in tempo, very few fast moments.

Killing The Dragon I think is spectacular. It has all the earmarks of the classic Dio stuff but does not get mired down in the band's own history. My only problem with it is the pacing, slow songs are sometimes grouped together and towards the end of the album the engergy kinda runs low.

Dio is so awesome, my favorite 80's band.

How do the newer albums compare to Angry Machines? That one was so bad that I completely lost interest even though Dio is one of my all-time favorite vocalists.

Angry Machines is his worst one bar far ....Tracy G was on that one and he was the least the impressive of all Dio players ...it didn't gel at all ....that albulm sucks...really

yes the other ones your were refering are very good ...Craig Goldy is great with Dio IMO ....and a very good player . He kicked my ass live when I seen him ...more thann Aldrich did with his insisting of playing blues in a metal band ....his solos on KTD are excellent though ....he's an amazing player ...but doug wants to do his thing ...Dio or no Dio..

I haven't heard AM, but imo Tracy did quite a good job on Strange Highway. He pulled off some crushing doomy riffs ala Dehumanizer, and this album is recommended imo.

Rowan Robertson's job and sound on "Lock Up The Wolves" are the best! Man, he was young when he did that and i would have loved to hear him on some more DIO recordings. He moved onto something different and i think he is still an active player.

I didn't think that "Magica" was all that great, but I highly recommend "Killing the Dragon"--great classic Dio.

                    Re: Ronnie Jame Dio

I really liked "Killing the Dragon". I thought Doug Aldrich added a spark to the songs with "Push" probably being about my favorite tune. For what it's worth, there is a DVD of Dio with Aldrich on the KTD tour called "Evil or Divine". It's a pretty good DVD (though I'm not a fan of the stop-motion cinematography) and Aldrich rips on tunes from all over Dio's career, from Sabbath to Rainbow to Dio's solo discs. If you hunt around just a little bit, you can find the DVD for about $10-12.

Can't say enough good things about the Doug Aldrich version of Dio.

The DVD is a must have if your a classic Dio fan, and although I think Vivian is a phenomenal guitarist, Doug Aldrich freakin' rips though his stuff like not even Vivian could (Vivian was a tad sloppy live at times).

I have that DVD and Doug is phenominal IMO. He makes Vivian's stuff look "easy" and doesn't even seem to exert himself.

This is not taking away from Vivian either ...I absoutley love The Last in Line and Holy Diver...they are great albums that have withstood the test of time. Vivian is a great player and that is a fact .

I have the Evil or Devine DVD and it rocks! I got it NEW from CDnow.com for $10.00 shipped! I also picked up G3 Denver for like $14.00 shipped. But the best DVD I've bought in the last few months is Iron Maiden Visions of the Beast! That is definitely a must have!

I've only heard "Push" off killing and I love this song. It kicks ass. Ronnie has the best voice in Metal period!

I saw a lot of people bitching about that at the last show I saw with him. He should go play with the Eagles, or maybe a world class SRV tribute.
