Bill, I still pull out my Beyond the Gates LP every once in a while. I'm glad I decided to dig out my Technics turntable, 'cus now I can listen to my old LPs whenever I want. Seven Churches is a classic too.

i really need to check out some new licks....criss oliva has quite a few nice ones. i always tend to figure out some leads by ear, and more than just once in a while i'll come across some really nice stuff when doing "mistakes"...kinda gives me the "influence" of that player without being a 1:1 copy.
it's funny....i'm not quite comfortable enough with all those crazy yngwie/loomis sweeps to use them while improvising (not counting small 2-3 string arps...i use them quite a lot by now), and as a result i almost always include some zakk wylde-ish large interval pentatonic lick when improvising lol....half my guitar tricks are total zakk ripoffs anyways...the whole pseudo dive bombed trilling stuff, the random harmonic stuff (ok technically that's really van halen) etc...

oh yeah here's what i have already excluding shred/speed metal and guns n roses - i don't count them as being in that scene..possibly a few others are in there that don't belong in...have a look..
