  • Hey Emmy, how ya doin'? Life's getting better in the ruins!

Bill, I'd love to spend some time with you and John, and meet your family.
Maybe once I get my disability aquared away I could afford to visit. We can have a JCF Hands Across the Mason-Dixon Line Jam!

It's amazing that we sometimes meet more like-minded people at a place like the JCF than in our own towns. The Internet is cool as shit that way!

But bro, don't EVER think you're not useful. You are still the rock for your family, that will never change. They love you and understand, they've been with you every step of the way. Your son is learing from you at a young age that life is hard, but that you can cope with it. You would rather your son not have to learn that so young, but it's probably better for him that he has, as far as him being prepared to deal with life.

And of course, this place would be so much more dreary without you! We need you here man! Telling tales, giving reality checks and just making us laugh! I mean hell, your thread is bigger than the "what are you listening to" thread! That says it all, really....

You're entitled to be down in the dumps sometimes man, but you have a lot of love in this room, not to be corny but there it is. Whatever else life brings, you have a great wife and kid, a unique house, bitchin' gear, a Cobra, weed and pain meds for free! And some pretty cool brothers and sister here on the JCF! Look at the bright side, that's pretty cool!
    Ron is the MAN!!!!

                      • You've probably got the reach on her, though I bet your sis is pretty tall too. It sounds like you either practice more than she does, or else you just have the knack.

My sis was a pretty good player in high school, she went to state competitions for uour school on singles, doubles and mixed teams. Of course she became a housewife and Bellsouth manager after that, but she was the chris Evert of our town as a teenager.

Me? No athletic aptitude, if not for guitar I'd have had no coolness factor whatsoever. And please don't say what you're probably thinking, Ron!

                        • any 'coolness' imbued by my holding of a guitar dissipates as soon as I start to play it.

I was a bit of a renaissance man at school though. I played guitar (although poorly - not much has changed) and would occasionally jam with friends; was a pretty decent up-and-coming basketballer, getting into regional representative teams and playing senior ball as a 15yo (until my parents decided I'd be better off finishing my schooling in a small hick town where everyone played football & basketball was an afterthought for offseason footballers to goof off); and a pretty good scholar, getting invites to physics workshops, picking up state maths awards, etc (although I would have been an excellent scholar had I applied myself - and that all went to hell as I rebelled against the move to the aforementioned town)

                          I often wonder what I could've become if I wasn't such a lazy bastard

                          • Well Rich she is 5'8"? and about 110# or 120# - way too skinny - but yes I have been practicing...for about a year now, twice a week, with my friend Clyde who is a great all-around athlete and has really helped to bring my game up to my current level. It's also helped me to lose about 12# so far this year.

I really surprised her...she had been given a brand new racket for her b'day (same day as mine BTW) but did run me around the court pretty good...she seemed pretty impressed with my endurance also. Last year when I was playing basketball w/ guys from work, I had to rest like every 5-10 minutes.

Also had practice tonight, w/ Clyde...my placement has really improved.

                            • I was a real jock in school. It didn't matter what the sport was I was always in the team. I was a badass runner (from 400m to long distances) and basketball player. Basketball was my passion.
I had a very good endurance, I was fast, strong and I could jump very high.
I'm 6 feet tall and I was a power forward
I wasn't a hot shooter or some fancy tribbing guy. I was more of a team player and if I had to shoot then I used my elbows and my body mass to make the way. I took a lot of rebounds and every game I blocked at least a couple of shots.
I always covered guys who were way taller than me. I had no problem with that, I was the most badass defender in da hood.
I always liked to cover the best player from the opposite team, I was so tight that it always made 'em mad and to swear. If a player goes nuts, then he misses all the shots. I was good at pissing off the opposite players.
I also had a great half-hook and a lot of airtime, If I flyed then it was very hard to stop me.
Suddenly I had this "block" and I started to screw up everything. Also I had tons of injuries. I would have had future in track and field athletics but I cave up on sports because of the music. I wanted to become a badass rock'n'roll guitar hero and to score bazillion chicks. I'm glad that I made that choice. I'm pretty sure that I can't do nothing with the ball right now tho.

Hey, that's a coincidence, one of my best friends is also named Clyde! You don't meet that many Clydes these days! He's also more athletic than me but his game these days is golf.

Good to hear you're working on endurance. The weight loss is great but the workout is even better, for your health. Keep up the good work!

So are you and your sis twins, or were your folks just that meticulous about scheduling?
