holy shit....yesterday i wrote an email to JF dagenais of kataklysm asking him about the guitar setup for the no mercy tour because his sound was CRUSHING and EXACTLY like on the cd.
10hrs later i got a reply...now that's cool, not only did he actually write back, but also so fast
btw, he was using a pod xt pro through the fx return of the marshall tsl100 head i saw on his side of the stage....must...get...pod xt

before I got a computer..I emailed Frank Marino on my sis's PC..back in '99...well anywho...he writes back, and not some short little response..NO, I'm talking he writes a friggin' book..so we contacted each other a couple times..thru my sis..

well , he re-issued his three out of print early 80's records to disc..and I bought them!!

Jeff Loomis and my one freind Paul use to talk every other day..that's how I met Jeff..thru Paul..back in '96..he's too busy now..

seriously, to me that sounds like one BOOORING show...if you can call it a show. i never got into the perfectionists who don't move at all on stage to avoid even the slightest mistake.
that's why yngwie's the man, he's shredding like crazy with hardly any fuckups WHILE delivering a kickass show that's funny to watch.
reading through bill's post i kinda get the impression that i'd fall asleep during an uli performance...

What Yngwie does is great, but he's tossing clams into the audience with his picks. He makes plenty of mistakes live, they just go by fast like everything else.

That approach is cool too, but Uli is different than almost everybody else. He basically started the neoclassical thing, Yngwie took the ball and claimed to have invented it, but Uli was playing solos like that 10 years before Malmsteen. He is the true progenitor of neoclassical shred. The bands that run around while they play, that's great. They need to do that to create excitement. Uli doesn't. If he felt it and did that stuff it'd be fine, but he doesn't need it. But hey, save your money, Uli'd just have to "Shh!" you anyway!

I'd rather watch MacAlpine play than either Yngwie or Uli. But, that's just a preference thing. Uli has always been one of my top five, as is Tony, it's just T.A. can do it all. Tone, technique, touch, stage presence...everything.
