hey guys....i'm in the need for some new music, and kinda figured this would be the best place to get suggestions from

so, what i'm looking for is basically rooted in the whole 80s shred thing, but HEAVIER...something along the lines of nevermore maybe. kickass lead work, great vocals and songwriting, but pretty heavy rhythm wise.....lately i've been enjoying power metal like primal fear...but then again, they're basically a heavier judas priest clone iced earth is also one of my faves, although their stuff lacks blazing guitar leads imho.
ah yeah, and please, nothing tuned to z# minor i'm SOOO getting tired of that shit...pretty much every new metal band is tuning way down, and mixing screamo verses with clean (read: gay) choruses and lame breakdowns...booooring - although there's nothing wrong with clear song structures...there's a reason why the whole verse-chorus-etc thing is so popular.

any ideas?
ah, and btw, thanks for the dokken recommendations, that stuff kicks ass into the fire just got me hooked

ok, sure, i don't know half of the stuff you posted, but some of the ones i know are pretty gay imho...hammerfall, gamma ray, brainstorm.....too much cheese i was looking for something heavier than the generic happy party power metal stuff...that's why i like primal fear, sure, they've got their cheesy songs, but also really dramatic stuff like visions of fate or the healer....that's why i brought up nevermore, their songs are really dramatic and/or heavy for the most part, but nevertheless well written

I've realized that as I get older, that I am very picky about what music I listen to. I used to listen to pretty much any metal that was heavy and fast. I didn't discriminate as much as I do now.

Now I listen to probably 20 or so different artists on a regular basis. they span a variety of genres too.

For example, here is some of what I've been enjoying lately:

King Diamond - can't get enough of KD
Dio - just got the live Holy Diver CD, and it's phenomenal. Craig Goldie is a damn good guitar player.
Halford - Crucible and Resurrection are fucking killer CDs

I don't know what pigeonhole they fit into, is it power metal? I'm sure there are plenty of other bands that can be compared stylistically to these guys, but I find that most other stuff I try to listen to is just boring.
