Btw. I have tried them with maple and rosewood boards. I always like maple more... on guitars and basses. Look and tone wise I'll usually go with the maple.

Rosewood is a lot warmer sounding wood. Awsome for fingerstyle playing... specially for jazz-fusion.
Maple is a lot harder wood... and brighter wich sounds awsome for slapping and harmonics. Most of the slap monsters I've seen are using basses with maple boards.

But owning 'em both would be the best idea

Yes I had both the maple and Rosewood..the active / magntecic feild pups in those basses are of the hottest and brightest I have ever heard..the rosewood seems to counter that much better that the maple . Besides the rosewood held up much nicer than the maple on my G&L's..and the rosewood was my main..and it still looked like brand spankin' new..

just my own experience here..I bought G&L when they first came out , owned several..and it is the only bass for me.

just my experience with them..those 9 v battery active pups cover alot of sonic ground..in fact whenever I recorded I always went straight into the board never micing an amp..and you can get whatever sound your looking for with ease..
