I been playin' around with moving shapes around in fourths...much like Uli does and the shit is sounded fuggin' good!

Only thing is, I have a bad habbit of not learning things slow, to nail them down..

take some really sensitive amp with good clean channel... fender or some jazz amp.... and play all the licks with moderate fast speed.... not slow not fast... something between... playing like that will give you idea how much you really suck or how much you rule.

Actually, that is exactly what I'm doing!!

I always had the "speed"..I'm as fast as anyone...Sykes, Gary Moore, Takasaki, LeTekro..fuggit I'm there!!!

I just started to break things down (disecting)..and found mistakes when I showed some shapes to Vinny. I had to walk him thru what I always blazed thru without a thought, and was wrong. Now I see the shapes crystal clear and I'm just getting used to using those exact same shapes in fourths..I guess this is "theory" related..I don't know, but it certainly sounds "right"..

My friend showed me some major shapes that he said I "desperately need". I'm always in shred minor.

I thought they sound too "happy" and gay until he speed them up..then they sounded pretty cool in the right context.

I'll stick and perfect what I already know, or what I thought I know..well, it's working. Val even commented on it after 20 years..that says something!!

I am playing VERY clean and articulate to show Vinny, who is picking it up like crazy..I think he's going to kick my ass..he's really running with the ball..

I showed him how to kick ass on drums..and I'm not a drummer..I just know the role and what "drums" are supposed to do..I still tap my fingers on the wall and go "No like this..it's 3/4ths..not 4/4ths"..well, that worked..he SMOKES on drums!

I'll prolly be recording with him, well I always play my songs with him and he knows the shit..so.

I'm MUCH more a stickler with his palm muting and string articulation than I ever was with my own. Now I'm much more aware of how I'm playing..it's true!

I like hearing him run through the same shit I do..sometimes I hear him throw a different "spin" on something, and I'll be like..wtf was that...now show me!!!

This happened today...we been playing together more and more..he asks me quite often..I can not say "NO" to that..especially when all his homework and shit is done..I'm obligated then.

I wonder what it would be like to have a shredding "metalhead" father..C'mon Dad, let's shred!!

The only thing my dad shredded.. was my ass!

What I think is important is..I never lost my desire or fire ..I have the same mindset I had when I was 15 years old..that's about the only thing that has not changed..that's always been a constant.

I know dudes who lost that edge and just gave up..prolly because the metal scene blew for a while, and family life became a priority..they sold al their shit...I never got that..

Those guys loved guitar/music as much as I did ..how could they just say fuggit.

There is always someone on this board thinking of "giving it up"..I never got that..I know about frustration..but to just walk away.

It's my lifestyle..it's who I am..I can't relate to just saying "fuggit" to music/guitar and just walk away..its very important to me..always was ..always will be.

Guitar/Bass/Metal was always my "escape"..I even have a little room John helped me put together..my "fortress of solitude"..just me and my music..anytime day and night...it is my "shrine"..it's my favorite little space in the entire universe...I'm always in there..or here.

Well, that is what I'm saying. My bro John is going thu some shit right now..but I KNOW he will never "give up"..it is who he is..he may want to sell this or that, but he'll always have good tone and his heart is buried in it...like mine.

We bicker over gear and silly shit..but we KNOW neither of us will ever have crappy tone or sound like shit..that's impossible!!!

We have a grip on "tone"..more than anyone around here..that's for sure. It's laughable how some dudes make a 5150 sound like..even the "good" players around here have shit for tone...this is true!

It's funny how concerned John and I are about "tone", when the majority is out there playing with pure shit..and they're happy!

Like my singer's cover band..yeah the dude is a good "cover" player and people are happy hearing their favorite tunes..Ty nails everything he sings, that helps..but could that dude hang with me or John in a band..Fuck No!

But he's out there every weekend, making money...playing "Here comes the sun"..there ya go..

Well Ty is a big driving force..He always says I'm the best writer/player he's ever worked with..that sees the song, as the big picture.

Every other player he has played with in his many years, were always too concerned of what THEY were doing instead of what the song is all about..he played with some majorly kick ass players that know theory up the ass..but they can't groove for shit..instead they write songs around a arpeggio that someone just learned from a Paul Gilbert instrutional tape..and I'll be damed if I'm lying!

Unfortunately Ty is getting paid at least 1000 dollars a month to play covers..I can't compete with that..

So, we get together once in a while when he can..and he actually writes songs at work, while I work on them at home..then put it together when we see each other.

He knows who's the shit..the Mo Fo other local bands fuggin' steal riffs from...and I'll be damed if I'm lying!

I hear ya man, I'm all about the song, the band I just started recently has a killer rhythm section... I'm just letting them groove like mofos and I'm just laying down some stuff on top of it to create melodies and hooks and shit but I don't want the guitar to dominate... in fact I want the exact opposite... I'm the friggin guitarists and songwriter and I want the drums and bass to dominate over the guitar.... sounds like BS but I like it that way

Sounds cool, a killer rythm section is a rare thing. When you get one..let 'em do their thing..ya know.

Let them make a nice cake..then you can decorate that cake..really bling it out with guitar.

Alot of bands is all frosting, and no cake..that's the problem...too many "hey mom, look at me" motherfuggas..

There is a couple pukes like that here that live in dillusion..they swear they rule but they truly suck ass..he felt the need to cop MY riff, because he doesn't have anything of his own that's worth a squirt of piss..

Man E, that sounds like Cleveland..Yeah it's really hard to get a good singer, they are rare. I always worked with very good ones..why bother otherwise..The vocals are 50% of the music IMO..and other people's too. The band could be kickin' ass but if the singer blows...fuggums..who wants to hear that?

I have a bad habbit of playin my riffs when trying out amps at stores...I break out into a Eruption..pretty much everytime I'm at a store..just for general purpose, and because I can.
