the thing is that whatever you do, in their eyes it's wrong.
being the nice guy? doesn't work. girls want assholes
being straight forward? instant turn down, they're intimidated of you telling the truth - even though they KNOW it's the truth.
so what's left? being an asshole? unfortunately some people think i'm a major asshole, because of abovementioned straightforward attitude - and my extremely hot temper - but i'm just too much of a nice and polite guy to treat other people like crap, which seems to be the exact thing girls want, even if they don't admit it......some more food for johns BS thread, i think.
ah yeah, and never mention your achievements. telling people that you've been on a european tour instantly scares them away, and if you DON'T mention it and they know about it anyways, it's still wrong, because them sluts want to know everything, as we all know.
and if this post gives the impression that i'm a whiney looser, well, maybe i really am. after all, that's why i spend my evenings drinking beer and playing guitar........

I broke my cherry!
That's right. I saw Nevermore in concert for the first time.
It was the first time I'd seen the opening act, Minus Life, too. I've had the album for a while and since I've become friends with the bassist, was looking forward to see 'em perform live: http://www.sinister.com.au/_reviews/...fe_eternal.php
They were really good. ML have scored some plum international supports this year and they were supertight. Good to see a Brisbane band stand up in this kind of company.
But to Nevermore. What to say? Amazing. Brilliant. Worth every cent and more, and better than even my loftiest expectations. Everyone in the band was totally 'on'. Loomis nailed EVERYTHING, banging and swinging his hair while he did it. I don't if this would be considered a run-of-the-mill show for Nevermore or if it was something special, because it seemed pretty special to me.
fyi, both guys played Dual Rectos, Broderick through Marshall cabs & Loomis through Mesa, and sounded awesome! At least, until the tinitis finally caught up with me and the sound in my head went to shit.
But the coolest part of the whole night (even cooler than the two cute 18 year old metal chicks from the concert who felt compelled to introduce themselves at the post party & hang out with me for the rest of the evening ) was after the gig.
A bunch of us moseyed on up to the official post party at a metal club to watch a couple of local bands and hang out with some of the crew & members from the 3 bands that played the main gig. Van Williams & Jeff Loomis rocked up and it was cool to shake both their hands and tell them how much I enjoyed the gig. Then left them to it, not wanting to be all fanboy....ie?, and rejoined my two new friends. During the course of the evening, folks leave and the party gradually dwindles to a large group sitting around a couple of tables. So we're all sitting about, shooting shit and having a laugh when the venue announces they're shutting their doors and kicks us all into the street.
So where else we going to drink? I wasn't sure if the Nevermore guys & crew were joining us, but everyone was having a good time so we elect to head a couple of blocks over to the last place in the area open at 2.00am on a Wednesday night. All the Nevermore camp decide to tag along.
So this cloud of blackshirts descends on Ric's Cafe. I'm sure it scared the shit out of a couple of the "normals" already there.
Everyone was just so cool. Nobody tried to monopolise the Nevermore guys. It was like we'd all been hanging out for years. I'm hanging out the back with my friend from Minus Life and the bassplayer from one of the bands at the post party, when Van charges in and joins the conversation. For being members of the world's premier metal band, Van & Jeff were both so unaffected. It might've helped that the Aussie techs were hanging so much shit on both guys (and each other and anyone else) that it would be difficult to become arrogant
Even after Ric's closed down at 4.00 & we had nothing left to drink, we all stood out front of the place and goofed around. Jeff seemed tired and looking to head to bed, but Van was still having a good time. One of my new friends, Lauren, had found a marker and decided to sign her name on the grey tshirt I was wearing. Van immediately grabbed the marker off her and commenced to write a novel down my chest (wrote my name, unprompted too! Dude knows my name!) Now let me qualify that by stating that I NEVER ask for autographs. Don't see the sense in them, and I'd rather just not make whoever feel like I'm trying to score a trophy, or proof of my meeting them. So Van's actions were a complete surprise. And then he said "now go see Jeff!" So I guess in the end I did ask someone for an autograph. D'oh!
When the guys finally decided it was time to get some sleep, Van shook my hand and gave me a (manly) hug before they all took off back to the hotel.
Now this is might be SOP for you folks in the States, but bands of this calibre aren't just popping out for short tours, a couple of weeks at a time, never more than a few hundred mile from home. Hanging out with the punters probably doesn't seem as great a strain then. When they come to Oz, it'll be on a usually be just one leg of a lengthy tour, with a lot of travel getting here and a lot more getting around the country. It's not altogether unexpected if the band maybe shakes a few hands before heading back to the hotel to get some sleep before their next 10 hour bus ride to the next capital city. I've seen bands that take off from the venue immediately after the gig; Yngwie's band came out to have a beer while he ducked out the back door; some guys will meet with the fans and are friendly, and they seem to genuinely want to give something back to the fans, but it's a quick handshake and a word before moving on.
But Van & Jeff seemed like just a couple of guys out to drink a heap & talk shit with some fellow metalheads. I guess if I'm waffling a bit, it's just because nice to see that a band that I hold in the highest regard musically are also a nice bunch of guys.
for my 40 bucks last night, I got a world class concert for nearly 3 hours and then 3 1/2 hours hanging out with the bands! Fuck backstage - this was so much cooler
Very cool dudes..they became sorta big..so hanging out isn't as intimate as it used to be when those guys were at the bar years ago with 50-100 people at the show..
So, that's a very cool and rare moment you had..and sounds great. Those guys are certainly cool..all of them.
There wasn't 50 people at one show back around '97 / '98 so Jeff and I was just bullshit along with Mike Amott..who I made blow beer out his nose..I don't remeber what I said..but I do seem to have the affect on people..
NM fuggin' rules..I can not waite to they release their live DVD early '07..Andy Sneap did an amzing job with the Arch Enemy one..this should be even better ..I think!!
Rectos..Nice..Fuck yeah..I'm glad to see Jeff playing his Recto again..yeah, he makes that fucker scream!!
Those dudes are top notch players man..it doesn't get better than Nevermore in my book..their shows are always my favorite..and one of the few bands that can pry me out of the house.
Fragle..yeah your right..I did some volcabulary research just thumbing thru the dictionary..I never used this word..but I'm "terse"..and I'm cocky and I'm a dick..so my wife says I'm a "Terse Cocky Cock"..that's right, I'm a TCC!!
Chicks do like TCCs.."
What's up Rich, Jimmy, Ron..Noe, Snoogans..time to almost eat supper..Val has been home from work..so it's been like Thanksgiving everyday..I love it..when she's home or bored she cooks her ass off..NICE!!
Fuck you Tommy..you chopper bike humping, twinkie eatin', Bong tokin', VH shreddin', BCB rollin' sumbeechahhhhh....go wax dat azz boyeeeeeee!!
Lateration,

Shit, what a great night that must have been. I'm pretty bloody jealous about now.
I stayed in and watched TV last night...
I was a perfect gentleman though. I was away from home for the night, but am still married, so nothing was ever going to happen. It was just flattering to be picked out of the crowd by a couple of hotties
I guess it was a doubly huge night because I normally just stay in & watch the tube. I don't socialise a lot & have missed a bunch of great bands this year, like Opeth, Lamb of God, BLS, all because somedays it just seems like too much effort. No way I was going to miss Nevermore though.Hail yesterday

I don't know what I'm gonna do with this tshirt now. I can't wear it around anymore, with all the writing all over it. My kids thought it was the coolest thing, so my daughter was wearing it around the house yesterday while my boy wore the NM tour tee. So do I leave it in the bottom draw now, or do I frame the fugger with the concert ticket and hang it on a wall. It's a cool piece of personalised memorabilia & I never get that stuff, so I don't know what the hell to do with it now
It was cool to see them both using Rectos. I believe they hired the backline, and you do see Kranks in the stores over here, so I guess when given the choice, they prefer Mesa?Hail yesterday

Yeah, I holler at him on his Myspace once in a while...but so does 10,000 other people..
I never heard him sound better when he used his Recto and never worse with his Krank..His POD pro sounded much better live than that fuggin' Krank..
When I saw him with the Krank..It was the very first time ever I couldn't her his rythms..his solos were fine, but his rythm sound was muddy..I'm glad he went back..that's good!!
I told that fugger back then he WILL rule..again..I was right..
He thought I was nuts..I may be nuts but I knew I was right..
