I grew to like amateur night again cuz i felt like einstein talking to younger
    girls and people in general.
We could have cleveland johnny work the door of this thread on weekends, and it's $3.00 to get in tonite and tomorrow night.
all monies would go directly into the BAMM account fund.

            • page 3....geez, this thread is going downhill

got me some new metal today...nothing stellar, unfortunately.
first off: becoming the archetype - terminate damnation
never heared of the band before, but the label said something of opeth meets technical death meets thrash meets metalcore, so that was interesting...plus it was cheap
not a BAD album, but not quite my cup of tea. it's hard to get past the metalcore attitude, and i don't quite like their interpretation of technical death metal. however, their thrashy moments are alright, and the opethesque stuff in between provides some dynamics, so it's better than the average metalcore record. mixed and mastered by tue madsen, so you know it sounds great all in all, 5.5/10 ...tops
the other one was nile - annihilation of the wicked. phew....certainly extreme....i don't know yet, maybe i'll like it, maybe i won't, all i can say is that it's just TOO much to understand it at the first time. however, it won't be one of my alltime faves, i can already tell that...just doesn't get me all pumped up and stuff...
last but not least, bolt thrower - those once loyal. well, it's bolt thrower good production, simple but effective riffing, some nice songwriting ideas...8/10 i'd say. if it was more diverse it would score higher, but once again, it's bolt thrower

guys, do you know any bands along the lines of kataklysm, machine head, hatesphere - neo thrash/groove death basically - but with CLEAN vox? that'd be way cool....nevermore does just that imho, but i know every nevermore album inside out, it's time for a change dammit

                • I don't understand any of that new stuff

I can name only 3 artists that I regulary listen to:

Martin Grech - did a first album when he was about 17, very dark and powerfull music, it's kinda like Peter Gabriel meets Nine Inch Nails. Huge underground following.

Nerve - one of the most amazing drummers JoJo Mayer's project, a trio, drums, bass and keyboards, they are playing "electronic" music...D'n'B, Jungle, Breakbeat, Nu-Jazz, Trip-hop etc. with real live instruements and they are doing a lot of jazzy improvisations. Very innovative stuff. I've heard they are causing some serious buzz in NY.

Dramagods - Nuno Bettencourt's new band, funky, modern day zeppelin.
"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"To be stupid, selfish and have good health are three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, all is lost" - Gustave Flaubert

I haven't checked them out yet, but Bill has often said that Communic have a NM vibe going on. They have a couple of albums out.

                      • i have one communic album. sure, the vox are great, but the music ain't heavy enough for my taste. way too progressive....i tend to like straightforward songs that maybe have some nice twists built in so they are still fun to listen to even after a few years, but that communic stuff is just too much for me to handle in my opinion, they're not exactly a heavy band.
thank you for the recommendation, though!

                        • no problem! As I said, I haven't checked them out myself yet.

I'm about all out of ideas re: your requirements. Anything else I can think of, I'm pretty sure you're already aware of. I'll be interested to see what others come up with.

                            • don't get me wrong, communic isn't a bad band, i just don't like their style too much....their songs are pretty well thought out, the level of musicianship is quite high, the production of their records is also decent....all in all, it's just a matter of taste really. if you happen to like complex stuff with lots of dynamic changes during the songs communic might very well be a great band for you.
i like it the other way round...that's the reason why i think exodus is GREAT, their songs are (well, at least used to be ) usually built around a certain idea, and therefore all the songs on the records sound different....i don't like songs where the ending sounds nothing like the intro...one of my main gripes with the new the haunted record. it's almost TOO diverse imho...
