Dude I have CT and major nerve damage to my left arm and hand..

My hand / fingers can not feel the strings when I play ...it feels like I have a glove on...it truly blows ass.

It's on my picking hand, and no AC lol. I figure it's from a lifetime of videogames and computers mostly. I also don't warm up before I play guitar. I guess worse case scenario I get it operated on...oh the joy of Canadian healthcare. I see a doctor on Friday.

I wish it was my picking hand ...My pinky just flails along now ...but now my ring finger took it's place ....you wouldn't notice much when you hear me but I'm playing things much differently now..

and I' use right right hand to tap certain things to compensate for what my left hand is limited to...

I can still hold chords with my pinky but stuff like fast runs and trills my pinky can't do any longer ...so the other fingers do it.

Michael Schenker plays with three fingers ....and he does just fine.

I have the same feeling and problem in my left hand due to the stroke, Bill. My pinky is a lot weaker now but I'm making myself use it. I don't know if that's possible for you since your paralysis has a different cause, but try practicing chromatic scales, where you have to use all 4 fingers on each string. It may help
or ma not, but worth a try. Yeah, Schenker does fine with 3 fingers, and Django Reinhardt
was amazing with only TWO, so it's mind over matter!

Indeed. Nothing could ever take people like uss down, hell if I lost my hand I'd still be bashing the stump against the strings. I just want this taken care of before I have a serious problem like you guys.

Hey just look at Iommi ..he's the best role model for any guitarist under the sun ...he lops off his digits ..straps on some leather thimbles and invents metal and a guitar sound never heard before.

and in the worst case scenario it could always be worse ...could you or me possibly imagine how Jason Becker could be so awesome and robbed entirely of not only his gift of musical genius ...but his very existence.

Yeah, it's horrible what happened to Becker...a damn shame. Yet through it all he somehow keeps a positive attitude.

I don't know how he keeps his spirits up ...just with my lousy injury ...it takes a boatload of drugs and meds to keep me content.

Well I saw the dr today, he doesn't know what the **** is up, i doj't have carpal tunel though. thankfully. well I got pissed tonight and gpt some x-rays in the morning hopefully I get to the bottom o f this shir.

No, I guess with carpal tunnel it's supposed to hurt most when you wake up and sometimes parts of your hand like your pinkie or something are numb when you wake up. I didn't have any of that, and he did a test too on my wrist with one of those reflex hammer things. My doctor is really good and he had no doubt about it that it wasn't carpal tunnel. Well I'm off to get X-rays right away here, I hope I just broke it somehow, that would be an easy fix then.

Well apparently I just sprained it super bad, so I guess that's good, though I'm not sure if I am satisfied with that explanation.
