• Re: Bill\'s Place

Those are two dang nice places, Buzzsaww. Orange County, CA is especially awesome, Tommy lives in paradise on that beach. I never made it to live in Huntington, but got as far as Del Mar and the 55, which was close enough with decent rent (only $650 for a 3BR apt, but that was in the late 80s). If I ever moved back to CA I'd likely pick OC over LA, just because it's nicer. You can park right in front of the place you're going instead of circling the block waiting for space to open up.

Check out these sweet pictures of my DAD's old drum kit!!!!!!!!
These are from about 1977 when he was playing with The Prairie Fire Band.
He has a new kit that he pounds on now that is similar (Tama) but are red and sparkly. The last one is him on his hand drums with the band he plays with today, The Midnight Blues Society.
He plays both the hand drums and his full kit for that band, he's always complaining about how much gear he has to lug around. He has his own riser even!
That sweet wooden kit (I think they might be birch but I'm not sure) I learned to play on when I was 4.
I have some more I need to get scanned of his current set-up and some with him and my Grandad (his Dad) dorking around. Grandad plays ukele. I'm not kidding. He rocks the ukele! I'll post those soon.
Here ya go:

Dad plays rhythm and blues, he's also a classical timpani player and used to play for the Philharmonic Orchestra.
He is Animal on the skins, he pretty much plays whatever... very psychadelic. He likes jungle beats too and gets into that groove especially on his hand drums, he has a ton of different hand drums from all over the world.
But rhythm and blues is his love.

Nice kit!!!
My dad plays drums as well.
More Motown and R&B stuff.
Here he is playing one of the many kits he owns.

He also builds custom kits and restores old ones on the side.

I'm pretty darn proud of the guy. After a long career in the Navy, he's finally doin' what he loves the most... and gettin' paid for it!
Any of you guys in the St. Louis area must go check his band out. His lead guitarist Mike can rip.
Check their web site if ya want to know where they're playin.
