Well I was a busy doing daddy stuff..and looking for snow blowers..Oh what fun..spending 700-900 dollars on a freakin' snow blower does not make me very happy..that could go toward a new Jackson or something awesome..but I gotta do it..
Let me get some feedback from you guys on sno blowers ..now John is pretty insisting that I get a big old Mo fo..like a 8-9 horse power with electric start and reverse and all the whatnots..but I must say I played with them in the store and they are pretty cumbersome..truly..I think..some say that the big ones like that can control you at times instead of you controlling it..like when you using a big tiller.
Now one dude said I don't need a reverse..his logic is that ..hey you cleared the path in front of you..what's the prob pulling a smaller one back..sounds "logical" right??..
OK another issue is the electric start...do I need this..I pull start my lawn mower once a week with no prob..is a sno blower any different..maybe it's harder to pull because it's zero degrees outside..i dunno
My drive way in a single driveway..but it's pretty long like a 100 feet or so..and it widens in from of my two car garge..thats the kinda area I'm talking here..
OK..any suggestions..do I need a BIG one..or will a bare bones moderate size (5-6HP) one be easier to handle on my back..because that's this issue here really ..my back and neck...is trashed..
your thoughts?
I never had a snow blower ..or even used one before..last year was a real dosey..and I shoveled my way out of that one..I can NOT do that again..no way...that almost killed my ass..
so I need snow blower advised..who's in the know here..besides John..I had three sales persons including one Sears disagree with him about downsizing a bit for me..so what's the deal.

If it sits for a long time it could be difficult to start. The electirc ignition will keep you from having to pull the bastage a thousand times to get it started. I yanked on a edger for 20 minutes Sunday to get it started so I could run the gas out of it for the winter. That was a bitch. It may not seem worth it at first, but five years from now you'll be glad you did it.

I don't think you need a 8-9 Hp one, but at least 7. 5hp ones, will bog down in the wet snow we get here and it will barely toss it from the auger sometimes and clog up quite nicely... Plus all the 5s i see are cheesy in a lot of ways, you dont start getting nice quality till you break into the 7s.
And yes, reverse is important... Think of your back condition and trying to manhandle a 175-200 pound blowerout of a snow ditch... It is a bitch. "YOU" NEED REVERSE
You remember what happens at the end og your drive with the city plowing 4 feet of solid ice/snow all up into your drive??? You need a real blower to bust that shit up man.
You're listening to the wrong people man. You just don't believe me... You buy a used one, you'll prolly be sorry. Some junky cantakerous old POS that won't start in 5 degree weather...
I really wish you could get a 75 dollar electric one, but it ain't gonna be too cool.
You spend 450 on a piece of crap, you'll be sad you didn't add a couple hundred and get a good one.
You know, I don't know why we can't do this. I've had this idea for years (since I lived up in northern Delaware).
You know how cars have a de-frost for the windows, particularly the back window?
Why can't we have driveways that de-frost? I really think this could be done with some genius engineering. Heated driveways even.
That would rock.
Course, you still need something to move giant piles of snow.
I don't know much about that kinda blowing.
I'd prolly listen to John though.
Bill, listen to John dude. I get more damn snow than any human should have to endure and reverse is a treat. Look around the 7.5hp range and you'll be happy. Buy a new one with some warranty so if it goes nuts you are covered.
I bought a new one two years ago and haven't regretted purchasing it. It makes life a lot easier when the plow blocks you in.
OK DAMMIT..THanks guys...I'm out shopping around again!!

That exists, Em! It's called a radiant snowmelt system and they are used in places like Alaska or parts of the Rockies to keep snow and ice off of driveways, parking lots and sidewalks.
It ain't cheap though. You basically lay out radiant heating tubes filled with something similar to antifreeze, then you pour concrete for the driveway/parking lot. When the snow starts to fly you turn on the heater that warms the driveway and the snow just melts and runs off when it hits the heated surface.
Of course this would cost thousands as you have to install the system and then a new driveway, but then you're done for good - other than the city plowing you in though!
Oh, the things you read about in plumbing trade mags! We didn't use any of that in Southern California but they'd probably sell in Big Bear!
Billz I think John is right here considering your Back. I would go with electric start & something with reverse & Horse power. Granted Vinny can do this in a couple of years but right now it's on your ass! & you already explained about some of your neighbors, so you think Johns gonna come over everytime you get that bitch stuck? If just to tell you I told you so! Then go with the smaller one.

DOOOOD!
I am SO freakin' smart!!!
Yesssss.
That is awesome that this exists, man, that just rocks.
See... I KNEW some genius engineers HAD to have thought of this, I mean, come on. We can heat our floors, we could certainly heat the driveways.
Thousands of dollars would be fine with me if it meant I didn't have to shovel the driveway every winter.
Of course then we couldn't play driveway slip-n-slide, but oh well.
It is FINALLY cold here, but it won't last long. We had our first freeze and our high is 52. (like anybody cares)
We'll be into the 70s by next week.
I am the ONLY person on the block with tire chains and a snow shovel in their garage.
I can't wait to get back to the snow.
Bill don't let these folks talk you into the more expensive girly snow blower. Fuck that. You want the cheapest one you can find. Lying around resting your back doesn't cost money. A good snow blower does. Think about that.
