Pink Dunlop Delrin 1.14mm with the beveled edges.

Occasionally I'll also use a 3.0mm Dunlop Big Stubby to compensate when my picking technique has fallen in disrepair... [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I guess it's just whatever suits your style the best. I find that the sharp point helps me with both accuracy and speed since it's a smaller surface that actually contacts the strings. I switched to Jazz III's after attending a clinic featuring Michael Angelo, and I was just amazed at how articulate his picking was. I found out that JIII's were what he used.

Yeah they look a little gimmicky and yeah his web page is just about the cheesiest thing I've ever seen but I can't say enough good things about the picks themselves.

I used to use the Dunlop 1.14mm Tortex picks, until I found a 2mm Gator Grip laying on the floor at work. Now they are my favorite.

those jazz III picks are indeed great for shredding.....once in a while i'll use them, too. but i found that they are too small for rhythm playing, especially live when you really hit the strings hard.

does anyone use a coin as a pick (other than brian may)? i tried it out, but it didnt work for me....lead playing was alright, but rhythm sucked hard. but well, i guess mr may isnt playing thrash metal, is he? [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

With standard shaped picks I've naturally just gotten used to picking with as little of the pick surface as possible when I'm going for extreme speed. I don't even have to think about it anymore.

To me the main difference between a standard shaped pick and a sharp pointy pick is the attack sound, and not speed so much. I like how you can angle the standard shaped picks to the string and get a scratchy sound. Can't do it as easily with a pointy pick. So it's all preference. There are plenty of great players out there using each type of pick.

so most of you use dunlop tortex,but I can't really use them,I have a couple of the purple ones but it feels too big.I prefer a smaller sharped design.Have to try dunlop jazz though..

I hate the tortex picks. The texture they have just feels wrong to me, and I can't stand how the picks bend and warp.

Jazz III picks are the Sh*t for me! I can use Fender heavy but the thicker, heavier Jazz is what I like. I like to hit pinch harmonics and I cant do it with light or medium picks. If they made one out of steel I'd probably use it.

The yellow Dunlop Tortex .73mm Standard shape. I have to wash them in soapy water before I can use them. I can't stand that powdery stuff that's on them.

For about two months now I use 1 mm nylon by Dunlop.
Also, I was thinking of getting something between 1 and 2 mm, but 1 mm is okay for now ... for now [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
