Re: Ionic air purifiers... anybody have experience

I tried strapping a pipe bowl on it thinking I could go "Pot Light". It didn't work too well, but all the seeds stuck to the grid.
I am a true ass set to this board.

For that price, I'd be curious to know the country of origin. You know which country I have in mind!

I know what you're referring to. I'll find the label when I get it and tell you if it's from China or not.

Alright, got it today. It IS made in China.

I plugged it in and closed my bedroom door. I came back later to find my room smelling rain-fresh... you know, the nice clean smell right after a good rain. Supposedly, it's the negative ions emitted by this thing, it's like a waterfall, and that's why it smells fresh. Okay, whatever, but I'm happy that it smells clean.

The real test will be later when my dad comes home from work. We're gonna make him do his activity of having a cigarette while taking a dump in an enclosed little bathroom. We're gotta let him finish, then go in and plug in the purifier, close the door, and go back inside the bathroom at 30 second intervals to see how fast this thing really works. If my mom likes the purifier, I'm apparently buying one for her birthday.

I'll keep ya posted.

Okay, did the experiment. Most of the smoke and fecal smell was gone within 10 minutes. Good enough for me. The bathroom smelled rain-fresh too.

It's true... we normally cannot go into the damn bathroom after my dad's dropped the Cosbys off at the pool and smokin' cigs due to the intense smell.

I'm thinking that if we got a bathroom purifier running in there the whole time, there'd be even less of a smell.

Thanks to Emthrax for recommending this line of products. Friggin' quick shipping too...

Does it make noise? Or just sit there like it's doing nothing?

It really works ehh? Seem cheaply made?

You edited your post! I was just about to post pictures!

It DOES make noise, but it's a VERY faint hiss. You have to put your ear up to the thing to hear it. Think about it this way... a computer whirring is like a million times louder than this thing, so I can't hear it since it's in my bedroom with a computer running.

Here's a pic I just shot... sorry if it's a little blurry, but I prefer NOT to use a flash since flashes ruin shots.

And the stock picture from the website:

Yup, first impressions of it are pretty good so far. I'll have to let time tell me whether there's as much dust collecting inside my computer or not...

Of course it's cheaply made, it's made in China. Seriously though, it's surprisingly lightweight and it's molded resin plastic or something. Seems durable enough for me, especially since it's gonna stay sitting on my bookshelf.

I use the HepaSuck Ultra 2000...

it removes all the oxygen in the air ...so there woudn't be any polutants whatsoever..

you have to wear scuba gear at all times though ....it's only draw back.

Priest- glad you are liking that Neotec thingy. Handy isn't it? Yours looks very similar to mine. Check it out in the dark and you can see those pole things inside glowing purple- its really cool. Don't forget to clean the plate- it gets really nasty. Makes you sick thinking you'd breathe in all that sh!t.
Your bathroom experiment with dear 'ol Dad.. too funny.

Re: Ionic air purifiers... anybody have experience

Very handy! My mom wants to buy a few of the XJ-2000s for the rest of the house. Ahhh, the dark... the damn green LEDs are friggin' BRIGHT when I'm trying to sleep, so I stuck a little piece of paper in front of them to block most of the light. I'll have to check out the purple glowing though. My mom was watching the shopping channel on TV earlier this morning and saw a similar product, except it looks more like a Glad Plug-In air freshener, and you can see "lightning bolts" happening inside it. I thought that was cool.

How often do you clean yours? I think they recommend once a month or something. Apparently, I don't have to take mine apart to clean it since the XJ-1000 has slots on the bottom to stick your Q-Tips through.

LOL! I forgot about those stupid-ass LED lights. Those suckers are bright, I covered mine with black elect. tape.
Mine is no longer in the bedroom- its out on the bar now. We get a wicked crossbreeze from the base and it blows smoke our way (via the kitchen) when the firefighters are out training. Nasty.
In DE I cleaned it every couple months it seems- here I have to clean it every month. The plates are black as death. Ick. I wipe it down with a damp paper towel and then dry it real well.
The little units are cheaper now- I'd like to get a couple more definitely!
Glad you're liking yours so far- I like that after rain smell. Be careful, if you have a small room and you leave it turned on high for a long time, you can actually get high from it and get a headache! But- that can be fun too.

Most of the time, my bedroom door is open and so is the window, so there's enough circulation so that I don't get too high. Thanks for the warning though. Mmmmm... ozone...

I saw the purple needletips last night. Pretty cool. Much better than looking at the bright-as-hell green LEDs on the front panel.

For some reason I find it hilarious that you were peeking in that Neotec in the dark looking for those purple lights. What would have been hella funny is if I had made that up!! Hahaha! "Dammit! She tricked me".
But I did the same thing. Happened to notice some eerie spooky glow and checked it out. Cooool. Would be even cooler if it shot out the front.
Cheap entertainment. Gotta love it.
