anyone here have any experience with fixing 4 tracks/tape decks? i've got an old fostex or something, and when you hit the play button, it just kinda jams.

it's not anything urgent, but i've got a ton of old master tapes that i'd like to get in digital format.

What model? I have a 480, if you need to transfer anything , I can put it on cd for you.

wow...i found it in the garage, sitting in the box. it's a vestax (which was made by fostex) the model appears to be an mr 200 mkII. if i can find a power supply for it, this could be interesting.

Do you know the tape speed?

on this model, you can do hi speed, and it's also got a pitch control on it. according to the manual, it's 4.75cm per second at normal, 9.5cm per second at high, and 2.37cm per second at low.

i've plugged the thing in, and it'll fast forward, but it's the left spindle that seems to not be strong enough to turn the tape. i think i'm gonna bust it open; hell, i haven't used the thing in 11 years, so if i kill it, i kill it.

Mine is the higher speed. There should be a small belt (kinda of like a rubber band)it is more then likely worn out.
