• Do you own that one special guitar ?

I know everyone here has lusted on and on after one specific guitar for a while. I know from my own experience, that there has been one guitar that I have always wanted, but for some reason could never justify and or afford.

I'm not talking about G.A.S. here, I'm talking about the original guitar lust or your own personal holy grail. This could be anything from EVH's Y&B Charvel, all the way to the '72 Fender strat your buddy / guitar hero use to have. No limits.

So my question to you all is, do you own that one guitar you have been after for most of your life? Your own holy grail?

I personally don't. Way back when I was like 10 years old, my brother handed me Kill 'Em All, I was a total Metallica nut. Later, I kept seeing more and more of my most inspirational guitarist using these ESP Explorer (the gibson shaped body). Sadly enough, I have always wanted one, but they have been driven up so high by the wealthy Metallica fans that it is just impractical to pay $1200 for a used Bolt-on ESP, when I could get a new neckthrough Jackson for the same price.

One day I will probably own one, but for now I think I will just keep dreaming.

My wish have been a custom shop Randy Rhoads for 15 years. In Norway it was almost impossible to get hold of jackson guitars before like 3 years ago, unless you imported one of course. And I really couldn`t raise the money for it, so I allways thought it would just be a dream, but nowadays I can afford one and will most likely order it later this year.
I do own a Rhoads pro that I bought used in 97-98, and I remember when I opened the case for the first time, it really felt unreal to own a Rhoads.
But the custom shop have allways been my dream, the one of a kind, built just for me.
And now it most likely will happen in a year or so...

I've found that my tastes have constantly changed, so I don't think there can be just one holy grail guitar for me. But right now, my Soloist does the job nicely.

i think the closest thing to a holy grail for me is the red/black/silver ESP Kerry King V with the eagle inlays. It's not even a matter of how it plays, since I've never even touched one. I guess it's the look mostly. I think it's the coolest guitar I've ever seen.

elvis. a magic gold sparkle charvel that does his own tricks. there is no substitute. the only thing i would trade it for would be a mint '59 flametop paul cuz i could sell it for $200k.

I had it, and sold it. Gibson LP/SG Custom. White with gold hardware, 3 pickups. Although I have a few Jackson and Gibson USA's, that is my favorite. I look all the time, but can't find one I can afford. Someday I'll luck across one for trade or at a decent price.

Ive never really been a huge LP fan, but my cousin's white LP custom is *the* nicest guitar Ive ever seen, heard or played. Just got shitloads of mojo, if you get me.

In '85 I bought my first Jackson, a black RR Custom. For me that one's still it today. In between I've owned at least a few (often a bunch) from almost every major manufacturer, some have stuck, some haven't, but I always come back to that Rhoads eventually.

the white strat that i had built for myself as a 16th bday present. it was originally intended to be like jake's white strat, but we changed the specs before it was finished. i've eventually modded it over the years, (changed the rout and pu config, along with the guard) and it finally needs a refret. it's certainly got a ton of sentimental value, but i dunno if it's THE one. it's really really close, and i couldn't imagine not having it anymore.

Don't have mine yet, a Cherry Sunburst LP similar to the one Slash plays in the "Welcome to the Jungle" video.

Yes. Mine is a Kramer Pacer body with a rev/head maple/maple Chandler neck (jumbo frets)OFR recessed, with a JB/JAZZ Combo tapped with vol/vol. It did every show and studio gig since about 86. It is beat to ****, but sounds unreal (maple body). I will never get rid of her.

Re: Do you own that one special guitar ?

When I was a teenager, I really wanted one of Tony Iommi's custom Birch or JayDee SGs. Of course, him being a lefty would have made those guitars rather difficult for me to play...

Yeah, I could get one of the Gibson sig guitars, or even a Birch SG of my own, but it wouldn't have been played by the Satanic Metal God himself....

Later, I wanted a '70s Strat after becoming a Blackmore worshipper. When I finally got one, it turned out to be a piece 'o crap. Oh well.

Even though I'm a big Jackson guy now, oddly none of my guitar idols have ever been known for playing Jacksons. I just really took to them (Soloists, especially) on my own.

I don't know if there is one holy grail ax for me. I think I'd like to have a '67 Strat (because it's from the year I was born), a Valley Arts Steve Lukather and/or maybe an original Charvel with a cool finish and a strat head. Maybe one of those might be a grail-ish guitar for me.
