JB is what i have in my guitars. I like the tone, very clear.
If it wouldn't be the JB it would probably be a Distortion or maybe EMG81...

Don't know about Dimarzio so I won't comment on them

I really like the EMG 81. Some people call them sterile but i think it's better described as clear. They aren't as muddy as some other pickups (IMO the invader is really muddy) and that's a big plus with nowadays down-tuned guitars and high gain sounds.

I would choose the JB because to me it sounds very good for metal and the notes are very clear not muddy at all which I like when playing rythm or lead.

i actually use a duncan custom the majority of the time...otherwise it's duncan distortion, bartolini, or dimarzio evos...d.m.

Depends if I want an active or passive setup. I have an EMG 81/85 set in my LP right now, it sounds great. If I didn't get that, I would have probably gone with a Duncan Custom/Distortion setup.

For passive: DiMarzio Super Distortion or X2N.

For active: EMG 85.

NONE of those above listed.i have a high gain amp and over the years i found that what works best is a good CLEAN signal from the guitar. i use sd ants in my les pauls and a jazz/ant or jazz/custom setup in a lot of my other axes.

In a mahogany bodied guitar I'd use a JB while an alder bodied guitar I would put in a Distortion.

the passive dimarzio evo's are good. whoa there not on the list.if i had choose one on the list it would be the
emg81 its super high gain ,active pickup

For Passive's I use Bill Lawerence for full out metal. For actives, take your pick of EMG's. The duncan JB is also great as a passive. It's probably the best all around pickup ffrom rock to metal.

I'm an EMG and X2n guy myself. Mainly because I really haven't tried the Duncan Custom's etc. But I'm dying to pickup an APC Persuader I've been hearing so much about!

I'm a Duncan Distortion user, but I just discovered the Full Shred--put one in my Soloist and love it. Like a Distortion but with a tad more clarity and harmonics.
