Besides the fact that someone else would have shot it (bragging rights DO count) a hog that big would be quite dangerous to leave roaming the woods, hogs being mean and aggressive as they are.
The picture does look like forced-perspective though, and saying they can't prove it because they buried it sounds fishy too. Why couldn't they just go back and dig it up?Ron is the MAN!!!!

Well, it is a boar, but in the pic that guy is standing in a ditch and behind it a little. Somebody at snopes manipulated the pic to move the guy up and determined the hog was closer to 7 feet long and maybe 800 lbs. Still big, but nowhere near the "1000 pound 12 foot long monster" being exaggerated all over Georgia currently.
