• Operation Mindcrime 2?

I received this in an email from a friend. I wonder if its true. I can't say I am too excited at the prospect. The concert stuff sounds cool though.

A GREATEST-HITS SET WITH LIVE STRINGS ALSO PLANNED

BAND WILL ALSO DEBUT PORTION OF MUSIC FOR UPCOMING SEQUEL STUDIO ALBUM TENTATIVELY TITLED 'OPERATION:MINDCRIME II'

Art rock pioneers Queensryche will perform the classic album 'Operation:mindcrime' in its entirety on the upcoming fall 2004/winter 2005 tour, which is being presented by VH1 Classic. A "greatest hits" set will open each show, and at the end of the night there will be a preview of the upcoming Sanctuary Records release 'Operation:mindcrime II,' the working title of the long-awaited, eagerly desired sequel to the groundbreaking concept album. Audiences will be blown away by the Surround Sound audio setup on the tour.

Vocalist Geoff Tate, guitarist Michael Wilton, guitarist Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield will open each show with a "greatest hits" set ending with the smash "Silent Lucidity." Local orchestra string sections will perform with the band in select cities. Michael Igor Delassandra, formerly an official composer for the Vatican, will accompany Queensryche and perform on keyboards.

"The band is so excited to be performing 'Operation:mindcrime' in its entirety again after not having done this in 15 years," says Tate. "We are presenting it in a whole new way that finally does justice the intricacies of the story and the personalities of the characters."

'Operation:mindcrime' will be recreated in full with enhanced production. Live actors will embody the fascinating characters of this chilling tale -- interacting both on stage and off. Vocalist Pamela Moore, who toured with Queensryche recently, will be back to provide the vocals of the album's pivotal character, "Sister Mary." New video footage will be incorporated as well. Queensryche also performed 'Operation:mindcrime' in its entirety in 1990-91, but this time around new and expanded video footage will be used. Fans who saw the show in 1990-91 will enjoy a more vivid experience this time.

One of the most exciting parts of each concert will certainly be the finale -- the preview of 'Operation:mindcrime II.' Fans have wanted a sequel ever since 'Operation:mindcrime' exploded and earned the band critical acclaim and commercial success. In particular, fans have always asked one burning question in relation to the 'Operation:mindcrime' plot: "Who killed Sister Mary?" The new album, scheduled for release in 2005, will address that question.

The North American tour begins in October 2004 and another run of dates is planned to start in January 2005. Upcoming dates include:

Eh, DeGarmo didn't save "Tribe" wth his guest shot, did he? He'd rather pilot planes and I don't think he'll ever really return.

If they can write something comparable to the original Mindcrime, it doesn't matter who writes it. I'd say DeGarmo is as jaded and faded as the rest of the band, so I'll keep an open mind, but I'm not holding my breath. If Tate finally accepts that fans want Queensryche to be metal, maybe they can come up with a good record.

I honestly believe Tate has lost his range. I saw them a couple of years ago and he was a mere shadow of his '91 era self. Looking back it seemed that during the 90's his vocals started changing live with less highs being hit as the years went on.

It is true and I agree on this.
I had a 2CD live from 2-3years ago and he sounded bad and another guitar player who was a replacement of Chris plays suck as well.
Every solo he played, he had to use Wah pedal and souded so boring.
Great musicians in this band and I loved them in 80's especially "The Warning" and "Operation Mindcrime" but when Chris left the band, it was the time to call it quit.

Re: Operation Mindcrime 2?

I saw them last year for Tribe and they were pretty good. The one thing I hated is Mike Stones solos. The reason I like Queensryche is because I am a purist. I like live music to sound like the recording and they have always been the best at that. Wilton would play his parts and then when there was a DeGarmo solo, Stone would improvise. It didn't sound right. Why wouldn't he learn the DeGarmo parts? Tate was good, but his range is shrinking.

I was excited about hearing this until I read about the actors. Lame

Operation LiveCrime with original lineup is incredible, it sounds just like the studio recordings. Tate's range then was in pure form. I don't like the new Ryche much at all, the last album was a huge disappointment.

Re: Operation Mindcrime 2?

I was disappointed in "Tribe" also. I think the DeGarmo "coming back to QR" was an obvious overblown PR event. I really like Chris' playing and writing but even he couldn't rescue "Tribe". Oh well, I'm just hoping that "Mindrime: II" is metal and well-done. Of course, given "Tribe", I'll definitely look for some clips before purchasing any other QR. (Fortunately, I got to hear an advance copy of "Tribe" and avoided losing $15 when it was coming out.)

As for Chris liking to fly planes, what's wrong with that? He and I used to rent airplanes at the same place on Boeing Field in Seattle.

Operation: Shark Sandwich is the title of the new record.

I wish they would dress like Price again.

Eh, I'm not really interested in them much any more. I didn't get Tribe. I got everything else they did, including the Live Evolution cd from a few years ago, thought that was pretty good, liked Kelly Gray as producer and guitar player, I thought Geoff was decent but wished he would/could have hit some higher notes again (maybe he should stop smoking and try and save his voice). The two songs that made me buy that album were NM156 and Screaming In Digital... just hearing those two live were all it took for me to buy it. I'm not too excited about the Livecrime II, but maybe it will be cool.

Mike Stone is a good friend of mine. If you caught the earlier shows that he did with them, he wasn't all that comfortable playing there stuff as he really didn't know any of there material, and really wasn't a fan. But he has come full circle now and is a really good fit now. Mike is a great song writer and musician. I've known about the MindCrime sequal for awhile, but was sworn to secrecy. I know this record is going to be excellent. Geoff didn't really sing all that great before Mike came into the band due to the other guitar player sucking ass like he did. Mike is a breath of fresh air for the entire band, and his contribution will be true to the original vibe.

While I was dissapointed that Mike didn't play DeGarmo's parts, I thought he was awesome as a guitar player. It was just disappointing to hear half of the solos I was used to. The best line up for me would be with DeGarmo, but that isn't going to happen. I can't wait to hear how Mike will lend a hand in the writing process. He's way better than the last guy and Tribe was a better album than Q2K IMO. I have the Tribe live DVD and there are a few tracks at the end where they Jam a few covers with Dream Theater. Mike tears it up. He's definatly a great player. Here's hoping that they can pull off Operation Mindcrime II.

I wouldn't say Kelly Gray sucked ass so much as that he never bothered to learn the DeGarmo solos properly. I agree with Queensryche the solos were compositions like the rest of the songs; the correct studio solo needs to be played to present the song properly.

Hopefully Stone has had the chance to work up
those DeGarmo solos after over a year in the band.
