**** dude. Fat Mike uses any and all opporutunity to spout his bush bashing and his views. i'm with boxcar, but fat mike and i've read a bit what gurewitz had to say, and all those other bands. i think maybe its cool punk wants to be as political as possible, but only if they want to urge people to found out about whats going on for Themselves. by having the people finding their own views, not by making all the fans wear the "Not My President" t-shirts and crowd around punkvoter.com. [img]/images/graemlins/rant.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/eyes.gif[/img], but eh, thats just my fuckin' view on it anyways. they can do whatever "Rock against Bush" compilations and be all "political".
maybe there should be a Punk Rock Political party, lol. that would be interesting.

I'm with you Pat, no need to force politics on people when they are not out looking for it as you had to witness. Its a different story if you went into a round table discussion on politics than if your at a rock show at Sturgis. Your there for a good time, bikes, leather ladies, rocking roll, beer.... not to be all intellectual or sumptin [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

all i have to say is that its their right to say what they want and get what political view they have across to other people. IMO republicans should go to some of these rally against bush concerts or whatever they're called. it might give them something to fire back at the dems or something to think about. and a lot of people that like these bands may not know much at all about politics and may end up learning something from the experience. they have the freedom to make their own opinions about the political views of those other bands too.

now when it comes to private life (iced earth), these people arent invading ur private life. their not barging into ur home. and if its on the tv then just flip the channel. i dont mean to be an ****, but u can ignore these bands and activist movements, or u can listen to them. its ur choice.

Well what pisses me off more than musicians spouting off is all these damn comedians that think just cause they're comedians that qualifies them as political analysts! They think if you'll laugh at their jokes then you'll beleive what they're saying. Unfortunately it works alot of the time.

I saw Ted live a couple of years ago at Riverport and he got political but it didn't bother me cause it was kinda refreshing to hear alot of the same views I have coming from a celeb for a change.

Of course we do live in a country with free speach and I do change the channel. I am not saying that these people do not have the right to express their opinions, I do not have to listen to them. What I am talking about has to do with the dichotomy of certain celebrities. A celebrity, for example Sean Penn, has a job as an actor. He earns money because people like him and want to see him act in movies. They like him so much, in fact, that they want to see him when he is not acting in movies. This means when he goes outside of his home there is someone there that earns money by taking Sean Penn's picture. Sean Penn does not like this and complains, but it is one price of him being celebrity. On the other hand, Sean Penn can use his fame and celebrity status to express his political views. This is a perk of being a celebrity. What makes me angry is those that use the power of their celebrity status for their own goals and then complain that people want to know more about them then their political views. In my opinion if you want to tell someone who to vote for then don't complain if someone wants a picture of you eating dinner... don't accept the good if you do not want to deal with the bad.

For an other example, look at the Dixie Chicks. They expressed their political views and had a huge public backlash. What the f-ck did they expect? Many people did not like the Dixie Chick's opinions and offered their own, just the same as the Dixie Chicks did in the first place. I guess what I am trying to say is that when famous people express their opinions in such a large public forum, they should damn well know they are using a double edged sword in doing so.

BTW, I have a lot of respect for Sean Penn as an actor and as a free thinker, I just used his name as an example because of his past problems with the media and his more recent expression of political views.

i completely agree with what u just said, their use of fame is like a double edged sword. i was just making clear that it really isn't an invasion of ur own private life. i totally understand what ur saying though. some people deserve this. but i think they're just expressing they're political opinions rather than directly telling u who to vote for. if they do tell u who to vote for then they do deserve the backlash.
