Re: Headin\' Down to the Bayou
Yo, Cryo, I forgot who it was that I was talking to that is going to Tulane...
Talk to me when you get a little settled, I'll do what I can to hook you up. Just a warning, though - while I was there, I did get married.
Go Green Wave, whatever the hell that is!

Re: Headin\' Down to the Bayou
Yeah, Audobon Park Zoo is pretty cool! Keith also mentioned the Camelia Grill on the Sandwiches thread; he linked the menu there; good eating! There's a club called The Dungeon that's very cool as well. New Orleans is also supposed to have a thriving black/death metal scene, but since I was in LA for almost 20 years and am not really big on those genres due to the vox, I have no clue about those.
I'd guess that record stores and the like would probably have those free "scene" weekly mags that tell you where all the clubs are and who's playing. Don't know what their names in N'Awlins would be, but there'll surely be something to sight you in.Ron is the MAN!!!!

Re: Headin\' Down to the Bayou
I spent a lot of time in the Boot, too, and there was a bigassed used record / cd store right by there... by frat house row. Damn, neither the Mrs. or I can remember the name of that street. CD store was upstairs in an old place... oh wait, in New Orleans, they are ALL old places!
More as I remember it...

Re: Headin\' Down to the Bayou
Thanks Cryo, that's real cool of you. He's in Long Beach, MS though, about 70 miles away.
Actually his ashes are split among there, my sister's Alabama house, our parents' grave, the Gulf waters, and have a slight remnant that his son and I will scatter in New Orleans
when we get a chance to visit his old haunts there. I really appreciate that you kept that in mind though; you're a good guy and I'm lucky to have friends like you, Bill, John, Chuckracer and Jamesy, among many others, who make the grief easier. Y'all are great!
Now go get some Big Easy 'Tang! My brother would want it that way!

Re: Headin\' Down to the Bayou
Ralph and Cacu's(I think that's how you spell it) has excellent food, there's one on Veterans Blvd, in Metairie and one in the French Quarter, I lived down there in Marrero for 2 years. Had season tickets for the Saints.Don't forget the corn. It's nutritious, delicious, and ribbed for her pleasure.

Re: Headin\' Down to the Bayou
Frankie and Johnnies.
I used to see John Goodman in there all the time, and I had a good friend guitar player (who was also a local) who did NOT call me one night when Clapton was there. Jerk. Course, I don't like Clapton that much anyway...
Keith
p.s. The best sushi I've ever had, ever, is up Carrolton (Claiborne?) (or used to be) called "Ninja." First place I ever saw female sushi chefs, too.
p.p.s. I sh!t you not: ask somebody how to get to Charlies steak house. But take a wad of cash. Oh. My. God.
Charlies and Frankie and Johnnies are both total dives but the food... ah, the food...
