Re: Cockroaches must love me...

Mississippi = cockroaches. I hate the little bastards too, but fortunately don't see that many. They live in the woods though, and once in awhile I intercept one outside hanging by the door waiting for an opening. I terminate with extreme prejudice.

My first place on my own (no roommates) was a 2 bedroom trailer down the street from school.
Rent was cheap, and only after I got in did I find there was a roach problem. Get up at 2AM to get a soda, flip on the light and they scattered, a fukkin' horde of 'em.

So I got a gallon of insecticide spray and when I'd wake up I'd flip on the light and start shooting! It was just like the arcade except I had to sweep up afterward! it took awhile but eventually, no more roaches.

Yeah, they're gross.... but they almost NEVER return fire!! I find this comforting.

I say "almost" because we have palmetto bugs here - basically a cockroach with wings. You see it on the wall and swat at it, and if you miss they fly right into your face. Human instinct is to flinch from the bug right in your face, and that's when they fly away from you. I hate that! That's why I preferred the liquid bugspray with the squirtgun end; you just nail 'em from across the room and sweep them up after.

Of course nowadays I just use bug bombs; not as sporting but more effective. You have to bomb 'em several times to get rid of them though.

I don't know if Aqua-Net would work on palmetto bugs - - UNLESS i used a lighter and made a flamethrower out of the hairspray! That's REALLY look like a bomber goin' down!! Might stink though....Kids, don't try the flamethrower trick at home! The can can easliy blow up on you!! It's only for professionals,or drunken and high lunatics partying!!

Lerx...those damn palmetto bugs are a bitch and a half...we have those here, must be the humidity...

Ya dont see them there too too very often, but ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....I HATE THOSE FUCKERS!!! The first one I ever saw was in the apartment we used to live in, Mr LPC was in Yuma AZ for a month and I WAS NOT gonna stay there with that critter crawling everywhere for a freaking month. I finally got it cornered and stabbed it with a steak knife, then flung the bug, knife, and everything else attached off the back deck. I only see them now in my laundry room, I have the AC vents turned off out there and Mr LPC has yet to hook up the exhaust thingy to my dryer (we've been here a year and my laundry room still feels like a sauna) so those bugs really like it out there. I sent Phoebe out there first, she likes to ummm...eat them...ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....she takes care of the bug problem here....

Re: Cockroaches must love me...

Palmetto bugs are German Cockroaches. They are so named because they can usually be found nesting in a Palmetto. They also like Mimosa trees (the trees with the pink fuzzy ball things all over them).
And the best way to kill a roach is by a fast whack with a hard shoe. There's not much inside of them, so they don't splatter like an egg.

Best thing for wasps (slightly off topic) is that De-Icer in a spray can you get at WalMart (Heet? ) anyhoo - Hot Shot ain't sh!t compared to this stuff - it's like an oil mostly, so they begin suffocating instantly and DO NOT fly away if you get them with one good short burst, unlike Hot Shot et al that requires a good hosing for several seconds.
Since we ain't got them damn roaches here in TN (that I've seen - at last not like we had in Lousyana), I haven't had the chance to see if that stuff has the same effect on 'em. Somebody run out to WalMart and grab a can if you still can and see what it does to a roach - might be valuable info

As for roaches being attracted to you - I suggest using a different cologne and/or deodorant. Today.

Damn, a couple weeks late with the wasps and de icer (i think its actually called De-Icer too) we had 2 nests next to the front door, and I had told Sam over and over and OVER that they were there, he said ah leave em alone, they aint bothering you...he changed his tune with he was stung in the back of the head on his way to get his hair cut...I had no sympathy for him...I will try the deicer and some cheap ass sticky hairspray on those bugs too...just for fucks sake to see what happens...

Re: Cockroaches must love me...

Newc, I always thought German cockroaches were those tiny little ones about 1/8" long. Palmetto bugs are 2"-3" long. Live and learn, I guess.

Mrs. LPC, way to get dat bug, girl!

Bill, that ****'s dangerous but a guy at my old shop was a Huey .50 cal door gunner in Nam
so he figured his number wasn't coming up by violence. He'd make a WD-40 flamethrower about once every 6 months after work while we were all having beers. He's a crazy fucker, but great in a barfight. Brought back an AK-47 and a .45 greasegun from Cambodia too -
you know, the invasion that didn't happen. That guy has some phenomenal stories - you two in a barroom would captivate the crowd with war stories from here and overseas.

Re: Cockroaches must love me...

I've had roach problems in various apartments I've lived in. Even if you keep your apt. spotless, it doesn't help if the apt. next to you is a mess, or if they are living in the walls.

In the house where I live now, we don't have a roach problem, but the ants are really annoying. They seem a lot more difficult to get rid of than roaches, since this particular variety of ant doesn't respond to the bait traps that work for most ants.

Gonna be fun dissecting all sorts of ugly critters in my Entomology class this upcoming year at university. Hopefully this will help me get rid of my fear of spiders and other horrid insects. Strangely enough, I'm not scared of snakes or other reptiles. It's the spiders and their multiple pointy legs...

This past weekend, I discovered a damn yellowjacket nest in the corner of the track of my sliding glass kitchen door, right bewteen the glass door and the screen door. There was one a couple years ago that I noticed dried up in the winter time, I knocked it down and all was fine. This time, a friend went out on the deck to smoke, came in and then saw my cat jumping up on the glass to get a bee. We saw two of them, I was like damn I had a little nest in the corner awhile back. I opened the screen door to point where, and I freaked out because a new one was there! I made a trip to Walmart and got some Raid wasp, hornet, yellowjacket spray, shot the honeycomb when I got back, those bastards dropped dead instantly! Now I just gotta shoot it again to make sure and then I'll take it down later. Eek, bugz!!
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
