Dude ...man you are so right ...that nails it ...yes I must agree with that completely!!!

but why does Libertarian sound to close to the word "liberal" ...I don't seem to agree with their political agendas...these words are obviously connected.

Thanks for the link ...that belief system seems to go hand in hand with my religious beliefs as well ...interesting.

See at 40 I'm still learning but I'm forgetting faster than I'm learning.

Lex, to be clear I said bush used waivers, that singles him out from other service members. Any service member who does that is a loser. You heard it the way you wanted to.

You know, I've often wished that they had given the party a different name. You're absolutely right; "Libertarian" does indeed sound WAY too close to "liberal" and it's confusing to those who aren't familiar with the party. The ironic thing is that Libertarians are as far from liberals as you can get on most issues.

I heard it put this way recently and it makes sense:

Liberals want to give you freedom in your personal life, but restrict you economically (taxes, welfare state, government regulations, etc...)

Conservatives want to give you economic freedom, but dictate your personal life (The "War on Drugs," the religious right, imposed "morality," etc...)

Libertarians believe in the best of both worlds; basically live your life as you see fit as long as you don't harm anyone else. They believe that the government has no right to steal from (tax) one person to support another person. They believe that nobody should be able to impose their "moral" standards on anyone else through the law.

Like I say, Bill, everything you've posted here makes you sound like a card-carrying Libertarian (like me). If you want to make sure, take the World's Smallest Political Quiz. It's only ten questions.

Re: Poll: How are you voting this year?

                Bush.

I'm not into the whole political debating especially when both candidates aren't very strong runners.

Kerry is too flip-floppy. He is pretty slick but doesn't seem genuine. Nice to have a wife with deep pockets.

Bush - He is what he is. Yeah ,the guy can't talk very well but so what...JFK with his Bahston accent didn't sound too good either. <please no rants on comparison> He seems real where Kerry is too fake

of the 2 evils, I picked Bush....

                    [ QUOTE ]
well, i know better than to post in the political threads, but oh well, here i go. go ahead and call me a liberal pussy or whatever, i don't really care; i'm not trying to pick fights with anything that will follow. if you take offense to any of this below, you're probably late for an abortion clinic bombing. oke:

i don't care about someone's war record, i don't care if a president gets blown in his office (i actually want a guy in office that gets blown regularly)i DO care if the person that runs our country can't pronounce the word "nuclear" and yes, i do believe to a certain extent that the president uses the war to his advantage, but then again, none of us will ever know the truth.

that being said, i firmly believe that both of the prominent candidates are unfit for the job, and i think that it's really sad that the other parties don't really have a shot at ever being elected into office. i think that it's a shame that if you vote for nader, or many of the other smaller parties, you're throwing your vote away. i'm sure that our current president loves that. i'm also sure that john kerry loves that because those that know that will go the lesser of two evils and more than likely vote for him.

i'm sure we'd all agree that over the years, we've lost more and more freedoms in this country. here's a great example: go watch blazing saddles and imagine what would happen if it were a new movie, released today. granted, a lot has happened to our culture since then, but it's interesting to see. before you pick up the "PC/liberal media" copout flag, be sure to point the other gun barrel at the republican religious right/moral majority. i think that it's sad that religion and what's called morality has such a huge impact on our country; it keeps us in the dark, imo. i'm not saying that religion is bad, just that it has no place in government because it clouds the ability to make completely informed, fact-based decisions when running a country. one needs the ability to do that when charged with such a task.

that said, i will not support a president who is against stem-cell research, who is interested in abolishing abortion, who actually gives a damn if two guys named steve get married to each other, and can't pronounce nuclear. yes, i'm stuck on that, and i don't care; a world leader should not sound similar to larry the cable guy. the whole war on terrorism (and "tear-wrists" as our prez likes to call 'em)is the new war on drugs; catchphrases and smoke and mirrors. no, i'm not saying that there isn't a threat, but i believe it's not as much of a threat as the government would like you to believe. again, just an opinion. when has the terror meter or whatever it is impacted your life? it hasn't. just say no, anyone?

                    however, in all fairness....

                    kerry's pretty much a weenie.

i think that's the best way to describe him; he reminds me of an uncooked oscar mayer weiner. i didn't get a chance to know much about dean, because the press buried him for reasons i can't see. (liberal media? yeah, whatever) from what i saw, he kinda spazzed out in a speech, and that was it for him. it seems to me that he was passionate about what he was talking about at the time... hm, yeah, we definitely need to get ridda' THAT guy!

so, what's a guy to do? nader? he'd probably do a better job, but i don't know much about the guy other than the fact that he's for the decriminalization of marijuana. why is that all i know? because the smaller parties don't get the attention they should. and yes, i could go ahead and research these people. but y'know what? i'm an american; i shouldn't have to put forth effort!

there's a taoist saying i saw once that goes something to the extent of "those that seek political office are the least qualified to do it." i think that's true.

anyway...who i'm voting for isn't half as important as the fact that i feel that my vote won't help get the right person in office.

and that, ladies and gentlemen, sucks.

                    sully

[/ QUOTE ]Youve pretty much nailed it.

He's about to be reelected in that office. As I said, I'm not thrilled with him but IMO he's a better choice than Kerry. As for your service, I respect and honor that. If you think only those who've been to war understand the horrors of life, you need to think again. Your service is to be honored, but it gives you NO right to condescend to the rest of us. That school of thought belongs in a banana republic, not a free nation.BTW, when did you serve, and where did you see action, out of curiosity?

That word and "liberal" must come from the same root word buthave come to represent opposite sides of the political spectrum.Libertarian ideals are appealing, but I doubt a Libertarian candidate will ever be a valid contender for the office of President. By "valid" I mean one with a real chance to win. The Dems and the GOP will always have a lock on that office, short of a catastrophic socioeconomic collapse in this country.
