I think I just passed James Hetfield on Michigan Ave a couple hours ago...
I'm not necessarily a Metallica fan, but this is just something I thought I'd share. I was walking down Michigan Ave. (The Magnificent Mile as it's known) and as I come to a corner, I see a guy with short blonde spiky hair and glasses. I immediately thought I recognized him, but I couldn't place him. Then I looked some more, and then it hit me... As we were both crossing the street I noticed that his complexion was very much like James'. He started smiling, he noticed that he was recognized.
As I passed him, I thought to myself, naaaah, couldn't be... Then I finally said out loud, "James??" When he didn't turn around, it put enough doubt in my head to make me think that it might not be him. Then when I just checked the tour dates on their site, it confirmed it. (they're in Illinois all week)
Now this isn't the first time I've passed a celebrity in Chicago, I'm seeing them all the time. Last year, I was walking down the street and I walked right past (Bears cornerback) RW McQuarters. And about 6 months ago, I was shopping in the same Walgreens as local TV personality Bob Wallace. And a couple of years ago, I passed (Chicago Blackhawk great) Keith Magnusson on the street. But it was strange to see Hetfield walk down the steet unescorted.
