• Heavy music in next couple of years ?

    Hi.

I was just thinking about it and it seems to me that heavy music is making a progress into making it even more heavier and extreme with the time, you know from Black sabbath/thru metallica/slayer/thrashmetal/death metal/90's metal (pantera, machine head etc.) to... uhuh nu-metal

How do you think - how will metal and heavy music evolve ?

More technical ? faster ? slower&heavier ? Now we see some kind of return to 80's thrash with the swedish vibe added somewhere between the riffs, what will be next ?

very hard to tell....i'd say a mixture between all the old styles. you know, death metal riffing with clean vocals, bands with very for example black sounding sections, but also melodic stuff, classical influence.....mix it all up. i doubt people will go any faster/slower. technical for sure, but not faster.

but lets wait for horns to tell us the truth about the metal future

hmmm...Well there will always be Extreme Metal and melodic metal...

You could only judge a future by it's past..

yes I think some of you observations are accurate..

but metal seems to be somewhat like a drug..the heavy will get heavier ...the technical will get more technical ...where alot player will sound like Loomis and the like..

it will peak then there will be a popularity is somekind of De-evolution..

I see a trend in this popular metal-core stuff ...There is a lot of kids in these bands that do care about their playing skills and tone..

but I'm not diggin' this new Vocal trend of growling ..then singing clean in a very monotone , happy choruses ..what the hell is this anyway..

The popularity of this is because no matter how technical the music is ...it makes it much easier to find a singer..

You don't need to be a Dio / Halford or Tate ...to land a great gig ...At best it could be your back yard mechanic neighbor..

This genre makes it much more accessible for kids to jump aboard bands without much skills or effort ...

similar to what Rap was and became ...anyone could do it ...even you.

I think that metal is continuing to evolve on many fronts, with bands being faster(Hate Eternal, Krisiun), more technical(Cannibal Corpse, Nile), heavier(Warhorse, Devourment) and more diverse(Cephalic Carnage, Dying Fetus) than it has ever been before. And if history tells us anything, it's that the music will continue to progress. I bet when Megadeth tracked "Rust In Peace", some said that no one would ever play faster/more technical, but that's obviously not true. As for metal's popularity, who gives a ****? I was into metal before it was popular, and I will like it again opnce it's not popular, etc. I've been a metal fan for well over 10 years, and I've seen the tides ebb and wane, and I just know that they always come back in for the full moon.

depends on the market most likely...who saw guns and roses coming?...not many outside of l.a....if there's onething you can count on in this business...it's that everything changes...if the growly style doesn't go over big we may see a return to more melodic metal...just hopefully not things like poisin getting classified as metal ...d.m.

Metal is suppose to be underground and take my word for it ...Metal has never been bigger or so vast ....it pops it head from underground to see whats goin' on once in a while ...then goes back into obscurity ..

Time has come where me and my money can't keep up to all the quality stuff that is being put out ...that has NEVER happend in my life..

and I can't keep up and attend to all the great bands coming thru my town ...again that has never happend before..

I think kids (younger people) were forced fed that ebonical african american "metal" for so long ...they were starved from "rock" , "metal" and "guitar" in general ...so it came back with a vengeance...

but it will be full cirlcle again...there will be a new "Nirvana" or de-evolutiopn down the road once again...

"The more things change the more stay the same"..this is true!

People are sheep and like what's popular not what's good and they only know about what is being promoted by the media ...which was and always will be crap.

Re: Heavy music in next couple of years ?

I think that 'heavy music' is really too big/diverse now to be called a single style. That was arguably true even back in the late '80s with the division of metal into thrash/hair bands/glam etc. But it's absolutely true now.

Look at the amazing variety of heavy music acts out there right now. A lot of it is underground, but underground (more properly called 'niche' music) is really the future. There is no real need anymore for humongous omnibus record companies that release everything from Johnny Cash to Slipknot. Specialty labels are more able focus on certain niches in the market with a better knowledge of what will sell in those niches--and without the ridiculous overhead the major labels have. Especially since radio (which requires major label $$ to get coverage) is largely dead as a promo tool for all but the most generic music.

The various genres of heavy music are very much 'musician-driven'--meaning that there's no way to predict which way innovative musicians will take the music. And there are a lot of innovative heavy music guys out there, even if I don't personally like all of it.

Halford predicted and went on record saying that Soilwork was the future of metal in early 2000 ....well he wasn't wrong.

seems like the swedish death thrash vibe was too good to ingnore ..it was just a matter of time the kids in the States picked up on it..and they did.

I don't like the vocals ...that's what I was talking about above..

The music isn't bad ...they just kill it with those out of key gay happy vocals ..it's horrible and will be a short lived fad ...because it's too blatantly bad.

if you can't "sing" in key clean ...then please DO NOT sing...just growl if that's all you can do!!!

i agree on that Horns. But i also think that the factor is that todays musicians in the most "productive age" ( no offense to the older guys of course ) - 20-30something have listened too good bands (also because they were big ) when they was 10/20 years old - either it was 80's thrash in the case of the older guys or it was thrash/90's metal .
