NEWC ...you're talkin' out of your ass sir..
Everybody took "something" from ED ...whether you want to believe it or not ..
Zakk , Vitto Bratta , DiMartini , Gilbert , Vai , Satch , Petrucci , Romeo , Marino , Jake , Randy , Nuno , George Lynch , Oliva and just about every shredder known to mankind took "something" from Ed ...there is no denying it ...these are facts ..if you like it or not.
You're Jealous or something to use this much energy to discredit ...the undiscreditable ...
in short ...you're pissing into a fan and gettin very wet...which I think is very amusing...!
he was called by PP Toucher Michael Jackson himself in his prime of popularity and called ED to put a solo in Beat it...nobody else ...Eddie ...and when you heard that song for the very first time ....you were amazed ...admit it!!!
Listen silly ass ....I was in a Van Halen tribute and we played 40 VH tunes all DLR era ...we dissected every little facet of his playing ...very demanding stuff indeed...
you execute "any" of his stuff ....post it on the board and we'll take you more serious ...because then at least you can back it up ....until then you're just blowing your "usual" smoke ...which is not a bad thing ...I always find your "smoke" quite enteraining like a Benny Hill episode..!!!
This has to be one of the silliest threds you ever posted ...keep up the good work!!!

My point must have been missed way back. Like I said there are only so many ways to play guitar. All mentioned took it from someone that isn't even listed. A players particular style of playing being criticized is one persons opinion. Mine included. Like I mentioned I'm not a huge EVH fan. I would pick Lynch as my favorite. But none of these guys invented how to play. If they weren't good enough they obviously wouldn't be mentioned at all in this post. Classical and blues styles of playing were around way before any of these guys. They just adapted it in a way they are comfortable playing it. Each probably has their own unique charactersitics when playing.
We must!
We must!

The bigger the better!
The tighter the sweater!
The boys are counting on us!
Read the new August Guitar world ..he talks about it ..
Lynch is a great player ...one of my main dudes back in the day...
The reason why we like Lynch is because of the kick in the ass he recieved from ED back in '77...a major ego crusher and he had his tail in gear to stay in the game...all because of ED.
you must have missed my post as well...

hmmmm..maybe I didn't post that Lynch thing here ..it's on the other thread ..
What gave Ed his start was this ..
George Lynch was an up and coming guitar gun slinger in LA..So Gene Simmons went to go see George play that night ..
But instead poor George got his ass handed to him by some unknown young punk in a band called mammoth that "opened" for him..
Gene , George and everyone in the place was floored ....
A guitar "God" was born!!!
End of story..

Anyway, I agree Ed was ONE of the major influencers of Shred, which is, of course, defined primarily as technical wanking with little more than a passing nod to the song's main melody - many Shred Era "songs" required complete tempo AND key changes so the wanker could wank with maximum wankosity, otherwise said wanker couldn't come up with something that fit the song! Guitar solos became songs within songs - not like an interlude, which is more of a bridge between two sections, but rather an intermission where you take a listening break from the song while the wanker wanks for his own enjoyment.
Thanks Ed!
To be fair to all those who came after Eddie, most of them (Jake, Zakk, etc etc) did it BETTER and made it fit the song. Ed didn't even try; it was more like nervous energy - like he was nutting from nerves when he saw the Red Light come on.
Wish I could influence 2 generations of guitarists by simply panic-nutting on myself
And why is it so important whether I can or can not wank Ed's stuff wank for wank? Since when is that a requirement for offering a legitimate critique of music? I know music, I was born with it in me, I didn't have to pay someone to teach me how to do it, it came to me naturally. While my personal STYLE is influenced by those players I favor, the actual construction and sensibility of musical composition (the core components of music known as Harmony and Melody) was written into my DNA at the moment of conception, which is a lot more than I can say for SOME people.

Ahhh I always found that people who don't like ED doesn't shred...which is OK.
I'm a shredder thru and thru and like most shredders we always give some props to Edward..how can't you.
But if it's not your thing ...it doesn't mean it sucks..
I don't like Country music ...but I have much admiration for those chicken pickers ..that's beyond my comprehension and abilities ..
I don't like blues as well ...but there is some fine blues guitarists ..same goes for Jazz and so on..
Shred is just not your bag ...that's it.....if it were we would not be having this conversation.
