You are correct about the vocals, a good/great singer makes alot of difference to me.

I really like Threshold--they are in the same general area as Dream Theater. Check out the "Hypocritical" album for a great listen.

Another prog metal band I'm fond of is Stramonio--they are an Italian band that is a sort of prog/metal/funk/jazz hybrid. Very original and cool.

Another recommendation, which Bill missed on his list: Aghora. They are (were?) a metal/jazz fusion band with insane 7-string guitar playing and clean female jazz vocals. Imagine a combination of Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Visions of the Emerald Beyond" album with some death metal sections thrown in. Cool stuff! Very difficult album to find, though, as they self-released it.

I'm getting to theshold and the rest ...but their earlier stuff is much better than anything they have done in the last 6 years or so...
Time Machine ...is great
Vanden Plas ...but I'm gettin' to that ...

Jorne Lande and Russell Allen are the two best modern day singers metal has to offer at the moment ..IMO

so is Mats Levins , Mike Turelli , Kelly Kealing , Tim Aymar , and of course my own awesome singer ..ex-antithesis now Bed Of Nails singer ..Ty cook!

Oh that singer of Pain of Salavation is very good..

They are the new breed of Dio , Dickinson , Alder , Tate , Halford.. [img]/images/graemlins/notworthy.gif[/img]

I will continue with the list but you have to come to my house "Bill's new home" to discuss the best of the best of all metal genres....I can talk shop all day ...because this is all I do ...nothing else ...just metal ..all day , all night.
