Re: Can a dog really suffer from separation anxiet

My dog (?) almost weighs 4 lbs.

the squirrel that scratches and taps on our door for peanut butter is twice the size...and they are the exact same color

I have a pic of both of those two ass holes together ...Pico and the squirrel...I wish I could post it.

It's a fat mommy squirrel with one missing eyeball ...she eats right out of my wife's hand , she's so trusting and gentle...but I won't touch her ..I'm ascared..

I feed her though...peanut butter on bread...

does anyone else ever see a squirrel come beggin' for food like that..it's a trip (kind of cute)??

We had racoons that did that
They'd stand at the back sliding glass door with their paws on the glass looking in, and if they didn't see us, they went to the front window and peeked in

Anyhoo, the dog will get over it, probably without medication, IF you can spend a lot of time with her while Sam's gone. She won't forget about him, but she'll accept it a bit easier if she knows you're there not only in body but as a "friend". Hold her in your lap, pet her, all that "pet owner" stuff

bill, if you've got a pic, i'll post it for ya. jsullysix AT aol dot com.

krista, another 4 legged friend would probably be a very good idea. if you want something that's quiet and mellow, adopt a retired racing greyhound; they're wonderful. charlie (my dog) doesn't bark (at all!), and just likes to pretty much lay down and sleep all the time. they don't require a lot of excercise or room to run, as many people think.

It's difficult to say what a given dog will do about separation. Since you will still be around and her surroundings will remain the same, Phoebe's anxiety probably won't be as bad, even though she will mope for awhile. She will adjust. My parents adopted my uncle's dachshund after my uncle started spending much of time on the road in a big rig. The dachshund adjusted very well after awhile--though he still gets all happy when my uncle is in town.

My recommendation--leave one of Mr. LPC's shirts around for Phoebe to lay on--having the scent of that person around is very comforting for a dog, just like having a picture is for us.
