• Goodbye my friend...

Warning: Cat story!

A year ago my gf and i moved house and after about 6 months in this new town, my gf saw two cats fighting outside our house and she made them stop and the one cat ran. The other one, a little grey & black one with a short tail stayed and she called him. Without hesitation he walked right up to our doorstep and started talking to us and bumping his little head into our legs and every other part of us he could reach.

From that day on he was at our house from early in the morning to late at night. Every time i was outside, fixing stuff like my Fernandes Rhoads guitar (No Turning Back thread) he would be around, playing and speaking with me, laying on the guitar or my worktop. Pure love. The best thing he knew was laying directly on my chest, with his face very close to mine, purring like mad. Of course i had to touch him and caress him - that was the deal.

When we got home from work or visits, we could hardly open the car door before he was all over us and then sprinting to the house front door so he could follow us inside. We didn't feed him because we wanted him to return to his family for food at least, so they wouldn't get too upset ("where's our cat?!"). We didn't know where he came from but we often considered walking the neighbourhood, knocking on every door until we found the owners. We never came around to actually doing it. We came to love him and he loved being with us. I've known a few cats and "Little Martin" was the best. He was always in a good mood, playful, and ALWAYS bumping his head into us out of love. It worked - he ate his food at home and spend the rest of the time at our house.

One day, four weeks ago he stopped coming and we haven't seen him since. A lot of things could have happened, but i don't think anybody moved house around here. I gave it 3-4 weeks for him to return and by now i think it's over. We live nearby a large trafficated road + a railroad and my guess is he's been run over or died from something he ate. He was a good hunter and proudly showed us lots of preys like birds and mice he had caught, and many cats die from eating poisoned or sick animals. He was also a very nosy fellow, so as i said, lots of things can have happened.

Man, my gf and i are very sad but that's life. Take care little dude. You gave us some invaluable moments of true love and fun.

That sucks, pleasant looking cat too.

Sadly, when left to be outdoors, they will often have to answer to the laws of natural selection. At least he had some good friends for while like you and knew someone who cared about him.

Sucks when you wanted to keep him and were considerate of someones feelings who was obviously inconsiderate by letting him outside. Poor guy.

Henrik,

Oh No! Is this Martin?
What a COOL cat he is, I am SO bummed to hear this news.
I had a cat like that once, he just kinda hung out with us for awhile and then went on his merry way. I like to think he was doing us a favor by gracing us with his lovable company for awhile, and now he's out galavanting around making new friends.
I hope Martin (if that's him) is okay, and I hope he comes back for a visit.
He sure seemed like a content little dude. I love that picture of him holding the pick. That is awesome! You have some cool memories.

I hope that he decided to stop by someone else's place and they decided to take him in and give him a good home.

Crap, all this time when following your No Turning Back thread, I thought Little Martin was YOUR cat. Oops!

Sorry to hear. I pray that he's safe somewhere and hopefully he wanders back to visit sometime.

Re: Goodbye my friend...

He looks a great deal like my girl Tash, only she was a tortie..but her feet and some of her markings were much the same. Even in personality they sound similar. I am sorry you do not know what happened, but hopefully it wasn't the worse case senario.

You could post a pic on a wanted poster to see if someone in the neighborhood may have info on him.

We have a couple neighbor cats that make their rounds and they stop by at our doorstep almost nightly.
I'll give them fresh and dried catnip and sometimes feed them as Tash had to be put down two years ago from cancer, I have some of these things leftover. Catnip plants die off but regenerate every summer. So it reminds me of her.
They always want to come in the house and hang for awhile, and I let them as I miss having a cat about even tho they have a home.
One can only hope he is ok and spending time with someone else who took him in.

I came to know Martin through your thread, and loved seeing him. I hope he is well. It breaks my heart to read the sadness in your post, I feel for you.

Sweet looking cat; reminds me of my old Budger
in looks and disposition. He would sleep on my chest with his head tucked under my chin purring like you described.

He was a rover, you said. He may have roamed up to someone who decided to make an indoor cat of him, you never know. You can always hope for that, since you didn't find him.
Regardless, know that your love meant as much to him as his did to you.

Sorry to hear that bro! I must say... I love the pic of Martin with the guitar pick!!! And on the bright side maybe someone else found him and gave him a home (indoors). It's very possible...

Yeah, it's Martin allright. Thanks for all the support, we really appreciate it. I guess you guys could be right - maybe he really did go elsewhere. Still, it hurts a bit.

I have 3 cats that loves to pick on my Min Pin. Funnier than hell when they slap the crap out of him, but he just keeps coming back for more. Sorry to hear about your cat. They can be such love buckets one minute, then big game hunters the next. They brought in a couple of snakes in the house to share this summer and the yard looks like a pet grave yard with all the moles, birds and mice bodies that they catch.
...that taste like tart, lemon yogart
