UPS Stores charge up too. You need to actuallly go to FED EX or UPS or The Post Office. Staples is the only one that does not upcharge that I know of. And if you fill out a rewards card you get 5% back on all shipped items monthly with a check mailed to your house. That is the one that I use and it is right on with UPS direct.

My Staples here is a FedEx shipper, although I'm not sure whether they'll upcharge or not. Apparently some other people's Staples are UPS shippers.

When I was living in Atlanta, I used Kinkos to ship Fed-Ex.. they are an actual Fed-Ex shipper, not an "authorized" shipper like stated above that tacks on the extra charge.. And they (Kinkos) are everywhere.. Usually cost about $15-$25 to ship a guitar anywhere in the CONUS.. I think the only way to ship UPS without getting the added charge is find an actual UPS Customer Counter.. and ship from there.

Ah Hem.... My theory is. I usually insure my v's for 5000.00.
The reason is that at that level a Supervisor has to Physically handle the item from point to point in each hub, not to get that much money if something happens. If they give that much OK. At least that is what my UPS pickup driver told me. I could be wrong though. Like when Big Red was shipped to me There was 5K insurance on it, well guess what, the f'ing box was open when it was delivered, it came a day early was sent 3 day came in two and there was not a scratch on it. The super was probably like, GET THIS DELIVERED. It also came at 8:00 PM several hours after normal delivery time.

Just my .02

Does it cost more for me if I were to insure a guitar for that much? How much more? I'm planning on sending out a Jackson Kelly (massive hardshell case ) within the next week so I'm wondering if it is worth it. The buyer is in the same Canadian province as I am, maybe a five hour car ride away.

I believe it is $3.50 a 1000.00. Or there about for UPS.

You should see Big Reds case HUGE

Oh yeah, Big Red is a Double Rhoads if I am not mistaken.

Ooooh, $3.50 per thousand isn't too shabby at all. I think I'll try following your advice.

All I can say is it worked for me so far. If you want to see Big Red look at the My Collection link. I have it next to a Dinky to compare the size.

You have some NICE guitars, brother! Maybe I'm getting old (well, 21 in less than two weeks ) but the first thing I clicked on after the two Big Red pictures was the gorgeous Les Paul Custom. And of course the Shannon and PCS.

21? I'd take that in a heartbeat!!!! And certainly wouldn't change a thing, cept maybe a couple of times where I would have ran faster or harder not to get caught....

I'm 38 and man, I feel old some days!

hey guys, Drake S. is gonna be sending me my Warrior Pro i picked up from him once this hurricane passes i suppose, whats the best method to go cross border (hes in Florida, i'm in Nova Scotia) without having a bunch of charges to ME... i already included more money in his cost for shipping even though he didn't ask, but that leaves me unprepared for brokerage fees because i've never shipped anything cross border before so i didn't know what to expect.

UPS Store VS UPS Office:
The UPS Stores are usually found in Mini-Malls, the UPS Offices usually have a very small crappy-looking office with several bay doors, several UPS trucks parked in and around the place, and UPS-branded 18-wheelers backed into the place. Then there's the gas pumps in the back that have no Gas Station branding (Exxon, Shell, etc), and you only see UPS trucks at the pumps.
Mini-malls can't have the heavy traffic of semis and numerous delivery trucks, and the gas pumps are generally out of the question.

If you can't find the office near you, either ask a driver or follow one back to the shop in the late evening (after 5pm, which is when I usually see them heading "home" for the night).

Even after that, the KE2 is probably still cheaper purchasing from Easton than getting one locally or somewhere else in Europe. At least that's what I've been told.

Flux, get Drake to ship via US Postal Service if he's comfortable with it, provided there are no brokerage or other cross-border fees. I don't know since I've never received a parcel as large as a guitar via the US mail before. Canada Post will most likely process it once it crosses into igloo and caribou territory and bring it to your house. Have someone stay at home though just in case the Canada Post dudes decide to leave the guitar at your front door exposed to your neighbors.

Newc... THANK YOU! "UPS OFFICE" is what I need to look for.
