Cheap yet good digital cams?

Do you guys have any suggestions? I've been kicking around the idea of getting one for a while. I'd like to keep it under the $100 range.

Under the $100 range, you're most likely NOT going to get anything beyond 2.1 megapixels, which is FINE BY ME if all you're going to do is take the common 640x480 sized pictures like I ALWAYS do, and anything more is OVERKILL unless you plan on printing out photos.

Also, you're most likely NOT going to get anything with optical zoom. You'd most likely get digital zoom which I don't use anyways. Digital zoom is basically just the camera electronically cropping and magnifying the picture which is useless since you can do that on your computer yourself, but why would you do it anyways? It makes your pictures more pixellated and grainy. So, to get the sharpest pictures, you're stuck using no zoom if it doesn't come with optical zoom.

There are cheapies at Radio Shack that can do this stuff for about that price. There are also micro keychain cameras that would fit into this price range too. Go have a look.

If you're looking to spend more for a better semi-pro digital camera, the kind most people have for typical digital photography nowadays, the Sony Cybershot series and the Nikon Coolpix series are fantastic cameras for the money and are super user-friendly. They practically pay for themselves.

Me, last year I went nuts and bought a Minolta DiMage Xt:



It cost about $600 Canadian but I wanted its super tiny size and non-protruding periscope lens mechanism... PERFECT for sneaking into concerts and recording unlimited video.

All those pictures above were shot with an older Canon Powershot S100 Digital Elph 2.1 meg I picked up from Ebay for $180 two years ago. I touched them up in Photoshop, but not much.
I also occasionally use my Dads Canon G2, but my next camera will be a digital SLR, probably the Canon Digital Rebel.
With a good eye and some photography fundementals in place, you don't need to go top of the line to get good shots, but don't go too cheap either. I am a fan of the Canon line. BTW, the name Powershot is used on about 25 cameras in Canon's line.

I got an Olympus D-520 for $130 refurbish from the factory about a year ago. Works perfect. I get some pretty hi res shots at 1600x1200.
